A visit to Crèche Pilutje will enchant and delight every child. Arriving at the nursery the children step into the Pilutje playhouse through the charming little child size door, taking them into a child's world of fun and Learning through Play.

The Magic Forest provides an inspiring space for music, dance and imagination. Along with the original Pilutje characters Pilu, Lulu and Miumiu there are many magical characters featured in Pilutje’s Magic Forest including Alfie Elf, Pinkie Pixie, the Happy Fairy, Big Bear and Lupi the Rabbit.

In the group room the children socialize together. They enjoy activities and stories and share meal times with their nursery staff with whom they switch easily between German and English.

The Pilutje baby room has a cosy home feel with natural cotton fabrics, white modern furniture and pastel surrounds. There is a uniquely designed soft crawling area where smaller babies can play peacefully with their carers.

I wanted to provide bright modern facilities where little children could make their first friendships while discovering the world and developing bilingual skills while at play. As a mum, I want to be assured that my children are safe and loved when not with us. Children have a massive capacity for learning. Since our first opening in May 2010 we have seen firsthand how the play environment supported by Early Years care professionals provides a natural and effective environment for learning and development. As a bi-lingual environment, we have been delighted at the progress that the children have made in speaking both English and German”.

The Pilutje Early Years Programme is founded upon recommended Early Years childcare principles. The Early Years Bi-lingual principle of one person one language is now well established in the programme. Only native speakers are employed who speak only in their native language with the children.

Enabling this requires careful planning from experienced staff. It requires a cohesive, motivated team who love children and are also able to develop personally while providing these essential life skills to the children. The

Crèche teams work a maximum of 8 hours per day in the Crèche with a one hour break and all staff receive 5 weeks holidays per year.

Pilutje Playgroup

In response to many requests for a playgroup based on Pilutje’s concepts, the first Pilutje playgroup, “Playgroup Alfie” started in September 2011. The group meets Tuesday, 1330-1630/Thursday, 0830-1130 and follows the same rigorous standards of staff to child ratios and Health & Safety.

Pilutje is named after the founders children; Piero & Luca and the Dutch diminutive "tje" give a hint to some family heritage.
