I sometimes wear a scarf when it's cold, but never a baby.

Re: are there many babywearers here?

You could try anibis.ch (Puériculture > Accessoires) they have baby carriers sometimes on there. I got a Mai Tai carrier from Etsy and I love it, even with shipping it was 60 francs cheaper than buying one here.

Re: are there many babywearers here?

It's basically the old fashioned 'hippy' way of carrying your baby everywhere in a long, wide scarf which is tied around your body in various ways, depending on the size of the child.
My D-in-L here in Geneva does it and a friend of hers runs a business selling the scarves.
Fortunately I'm not expected to carry the little one around in one when I'm on baby-sitting duty!

I'd never heard of it either, but Google gives this. Not that I really understand it now, but I know that it, whatever it is, exists, though maybe not in Switzerland.

Re: are there many babywearers here?

Okay, I see:

My wife did that with ours and has only just stopped.

I wasn't metro enough to do it myself.
(I actually think my wife thought I was too stupid to tie it up properly as I demonstrated with a teddy bear, dropping it head-first several times).

Its very practical for me, I only take the bus in Lausanne (no car) and I refuse to get on the bus anymore with a stroller. There's never any room, noone moves, and by the time I get on the bus, there are already 3 strollers on board.

Re: are there many babywearers here?

I have two carriers (Ergo and Moby) that I would like to use much more with my 6 week old but I haven't really got going with them properly yet. I see a lot of women -- and some men -- "wearing" babies in central Bern. Ergos are popular, and the Manduca which is similar, and various kinds of wraps. I haven't come across any meet-ups though. I have seen courses but usually only for "Tragetüch" which is the long woven wraps.

I got one of my carriers secondhand by asking on the Expat-Moms-in-Switzerland email list -- I had lots of offers. (That's probably a good place to ask about babywearing groups too.) Other possibilities for buying secondhand:

* EF marketplace
* www.ricardo.ch (or http://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/kind-un...gen/l/cn40532/)
* Lilliput http://kleinanzeigen.liliput.ch/baby...e-tragesysteme

Well, I was a hippy and it's exactly how I carried my sons! Or a hippy hippie if you like.... the original spelling was with a Y.

Re: are there many babywearers here?

I had a scarf for my son, but I never understood how to use it if you're not an octopus: how the heck can you carry your baby, wrap the scarf around you and tie the not with only too arms escapes me

I have an ergo with my baby daughter, and I use it all the time. It's great, practical and my daughter loves being in there. Seems to be very common around here.

That's what I had. It is very useful and you can use it for infants as well as toddlers, on you front or back. It's called "Glückskäfer Tragesack" and you can order it online, I don't know if they sell it in shops in CH

Re: are there many babywearers here?

Thanks for your replies... I suppose people do think it of hippy like but I love my wraps as I have a bubba and a toddler i can carry one and the other walks and no double buggy!

In the Uk there are sling libraries and coffee mornings which is why i was wondering if there were any here but will check out the links given thanks.especially for pre loved ones as didymos have a lot of special editions they dont stock now. I have been using uk sites but always risk of customs.

I have an ergo too but the wraps are smaller and more comfy for me as there are so many ties... i suppose people think my coat is odd too

and simplest wrap tie just incase anyone still not sure about BW..
