Baby teething desperation.

A very good friend of mine in Switzerland has a boy the same age than mine. Like mine he is teething but he seems to have a very bad time with the pain.

My friends are now to a point of total exasperation. Lack of sleep and work during the day is taking the best out of them.

They tried everything, and I can't think of anymore tricks to calm the poor little angel.

Paracetamol, gel on the gums, cold rings... And I told her to try the Amber necklace. I don't know if it does work but it is a welcome coincidence that my son is calmer like my daughter was back then.

Any other tips I could share with them? I feel really sorry for them. I remember how tough it was with my first child and I can't help them in person.

Thanks

Re: Baby teething desperation.

There are some herbal sachets called nelsons teetha(its basically chamomile powder) but the granules seems to help with the itchy pain and the chamomile is calming. i buy it from england but i know that you can order it from the german amazon too. Good luck!

Re: Baby teething desperation.

Has she tried freezing a wet washcloth and letting her baby chew on that? That seems to work for some babies who don't like teethers. Also, I have heard of some parents who freeze their babies pacifiers/binkies.

Re: Baby teething desperation.

I once made the mistake for thinking my calm baby changing into a little hellion at night for teething, turned out to be a double ear infection. So it could well be teething but maybe they can rule other things out as well..

Re: Baby teething desperation.

Our older daughter was miserable when she was teething. We gave her ibuprophen (Algifor, which is available for children either as a liquid or a suppository).

I know some people think that children shouldn't be medicated except when completely necessary, but IMO sleep is necessary. At least for us, a little painkiller at night made all the difference.

Re: Baby teething desperation.

I can recommend the amber necklace for sure, I think that's gonna help.
I didn't find teething rings a help as she never got the jist (when she was really small) of what to do with it. I used teething gel, like dentinox, bonjela but it didnt ever seem like much managed to stay on her gums.
Now she's a bit older, if it seems like she's really suffering I give her some calpol, or the equivalent. It's been rare that she suffered much though to be honest, and I've really started to believe in the amber necklaces!

Having the same at home, luckily our girl is also calm and not too bad.
I saw a biting ring at the pharmacy the other day I might give a go. It's from a Swiss brand Curaden, just looked it up it's called CURAbaby Beissring.
Good luck to your friend!

Re: Baby teething desperation.

I saw something "new" (new to me anyhow) when I was with my m-i-l in Germany looking at baby stuff the other day... Apparently there is a new sort of pacifier thing which consists of a net / mesh baggie that screws into a handle. The intent is to put cold / frozen fruit or ice in it, the mesh keeping from any large "bitten off" chunks being swallowed.

I imagine the net bag / mesh doing a bit of massaging as baby gnaws on it.

Maybe something like this would work? I saw it at Müller drugstore.

Oh, great idea Peg! I have it for my boy. He doesn't like it cold but he loves to eat his bananas in that. I will tell my friend.

Re: Baby teething desperation.

I am not sure if it available where you are in uk i used ambisol and it is a liquid rather than a gel that numbs and is more effective as doesn't slide off the gums like gel.

I was also going to suggest frozen fruit my son liked this always helped. Also if i wrapped him in the sling helped him sleep too and then just loosened off and laid him down.

Hope it doesnt last for too long!

Re: Baby teething desperation.

We used dentinox and calpol with little relief, but worked for us was osa- which is available in local pharmacies herbal and non herbal formats. Apparently it has coca leaf extract in it, which numbs the gums.
