If you need something immediately or in the next couple of weeks I would suggest going to the Universitätspital. Every doctor I've encountered there speaks excellent english and honestly the people who work there could not be friendlier (minus the guy who works the information desk at the entrance of the hospital)
Also, they might be able to refer you to someone local who doesn't work at the hospital. website |

Whilst I have no direct experience to respond to your question, I think nearly all doctors here have a pretty good understanding of English, so I don't think you need to be overly concerned in this. Just find one who is geographically near to you. Ask if he (she) speaks English and if not, then try the next nearest one and so on. Hope that helps.

...else I suggest you need a specialist dictionary if you are going to rely on your level-1 german...

when I came in for emergency surgery, I am not surprised.

Thanks DATA, that was a very logical answer, although you showed a complete lack of emotion.

Although, naturally I do hope that errnabonita is OK and quickly finds a gynaecologist who will communicate on the deepest level in a way that is mutually comprehensible and beneficial. |

Dr. Buff on Bahnhofstrasse is really nice and his English is excellent. He is recommended by many expats and I know a few people that use him.
I didn't have any troubles getting an appointment with him but I was referred by my general doctor so that might have helped - not sure - but still worth calling.

i think a lot of doctors in Zurich speak english exceptionally well - my husband has just started working at the Triemlispital and everyone (doctors, nurses, technicians, radiologists) speaks to him in English. Not good for his German but there you go.
He's a cardiologist and I hope no-one is sick enough to have to go and see him. Some of his colleagues spent time doing research in the UK and I'm pretty sure the same would be the case in other medical specialties.
