Go to the Sauna 3 times a week.

I'm currently using a cream called Bepanthen, it's amazing!
More commonly used for nappy rash!

For dry skin, Lidl sell an own brand cream in a large bottle for less than two francs and it's as good as anything else.

If you don't have such an option, try Ojon Restorative shampoo and conditioner - yes, it's very nourishing, but actually keeps your hair clean longer, as it makes the scalp think it does not need to produce so much oil. Worked for me.
Can I buy this shampoo here?

I also brought a shower head from the UK which filters the water. It does help with the drying effect of the water here. I am sure you should be able to find one over here.
Anyone know how this is called in German?

Re: Dry itchy skin.....

before I go to bed at night, for my skin I do olive oil or any other type of natural oil, I let it sit for ten or fifteen minutes, then I put a coat of Nutraplus or Cetaphil (made by the same company, Cetaphil is Nutraplus without the urea) to "seal" it.

For hair, I use any of the Phyto leave in conditioners as well as a normal conditioner in shower. If my hair is especially dry, I put some of the Phyto on under a shower cap and sleep in it.

I was just thinking about buying Cethapil. Where do you get it in Zurich?

I'm sure it's possible somehow. If in Basel, nip over the border, I know Sephora France sells it. otherwise try ebay. If you have friends in UK then ojon.co.uk has really good offers, once they gave away full size shampoo and conditioner with any purchase.

I've also noticed the native people look a lot older than they are. The dry air is definitely a problem. Good luck
That's more likely to be because many of them smoke and use sunbeds. I got asked for ID three times in the past year when buying alcohol, so not all "natives" are decrepit, dried up beings.

As for the initial post, add more Omega acids to your diet, drink more and - here's tip that a lot of us could take to heart, don't shower for quite so long. When I hear of people spending 20 minutes or longer in the shower, wow, that's really long and a lot of water to use. For all the Urea fans out there, Aldi now has a line of Urea products at a third of the usual cost of such stuff.

Try any body lotion that has urea in it, it helps a lot for itchy skin without making it greasy. Migros has a good simple one that works really well for very dry skins. It's called "Urea Body Lotion" in their own "I am" line.
Bought some lotion today with urea in. Feels less greasy. Hopefully the night time itches will stop.

what about systemic remedies? Vitamin supplements? E? Omega 3s? Hair/Skin/Nails multiple combos?
Would multi vitamins do?

Just a few hints regarding dry skin:

Be sure that the temperature of your bath or shower is not too hot; the hotter the water, the worse it is for your skin.

After your shower, put lotion on your skin while it is still wet. It will take a while to dry out, but this helps "lock in" the moisture.

Always use protective gloves when doing housework which involves getting your hands wet.

Finally, simply drinking more water is always a good thing!

I wish I could help you on the limp hair problem, but I have it as well.
Luke warm water shower tonight. Can't say I stay in long but already seem less itchy. I also took your advice on moisturising whilst wet. Worked a treat

Re: Dry itchy skin.....

Try rinsing your hair in filtered, boiled (cooled) water with a dash of lemon in it after your usual shampoo and conditioning.

Re: Dry itchy skin.....

Many people here have offered solutions to dry skin so let me concentrate on the possible/probable cause.

Most likely it is the HARDNESS of the water where you live. Most of CH except parts of VS have hard to VERY hard water. This is great to drink but it is really tough on your skin. More so for an infant.

You can check your local area to confirm the specific hardness but here is the general picture for CH. When they say "very hard", they mean it.

Re: Dry itchy skin.....

I use a clarifying shampoo to reduce mineral build up:

http://www.paulmitchell.com/Products...mpooThree.aspx

But I also second the suggestion to get an inline shower filter with a charcoal filter... had one in Phoenix and it worked a charm!

One other thought: how dry is your office? Mine is rediculously dry and some of my colleagues have gotten those little humidifiers that use small water bottles. Believe it or not, it makes a different for the small space at your desk, if you tend to sit there working on your computer for any length of time.
