| | | Dry itchy skin.....
Hello
Since living here my skin and hair are suffering. My skin is dry and itchy and my hair is lank and greasy. Has anyone else or does anyone else have this problem in which you may have a solution?
In the UK I could manage with central heating and my skin but here I can't seem to nourish it enough. And that water is so bad for my hair...I despair!!

Try Eucerin products, I could not live without them. http://www2.eucerin.com/ch-fr/inform...-de-chez-vous/
I also brought a shower head from the UK which filters the water. It does help with the drying effect of the water here. I am sure you should be able to find one over here.

I find that washing my hair with Palmolive dishwashing liquid from time to time sort of resets it to zero. P.S. I'm a dude so use at your own risk. | | This user would like to thank Mud for this useful post:

Try any body lotion that has urea in it, it helps a lot for itchy skin without making it greasy. Migros has a good simple one that works really well for very dry skins. It's called "Urea Body Lotion" in their own "I am" line.

There is a lotion called Anti Dry. Excellent. You can buy it at Apotheke or Drogerie.

How about an humidifier + a lotion/cream like Eucerin as mentioned above?

Just a few hints regarding dry skin:
Be sure that the temperature of your bath or shower is not too hot; the hotter the water, the worse it is for your skin.
After your shower, put lotion on your skin while it is still wet. It will take a while to dry out, but this helps "lock in" the moisture.
Always use protective gloves when doing housework which involves getting your hands wet.
Finally, simply drinking more water is always a good thing!
I wish I could help you on the limp hair problem, but I have it as well. | | The following 2 users would like to thank Textoch for this useful post:

Borretsch oil capsules (starflower oil) do wonders for dry skin. Is the limp hair due to the mist? I find this always makes my hair limp and so try to wear a head covering in winter

Go to the Sauna 3 times a week.
I'm currently using a cream called Bepanthen, it's amazing!

And for a different angle, has your diet changed much since you arrived? Maybe eating more bread and pastries? Or have you possibly developed a sensitivity to gluten, which is not unusual. Try googling "itchy skin gluten" and you'll find lots on the subject. Note that you do not have to be Celiac to have a gluten sensitivity that can manifest in all sorts of health issues.

Neutrogena stuff is great. They have an oil that you put on wet skin, it's fabulous. And it's not greasy at all.

personally not a fan of fancy, expensive, crap filled creams.. I alternate between olive oil and coconut cream on my skin ... and also have a humidifier. I've also noticed the native people look a lot older than they are. The dry air is definitely a problem. Good luck | | This user would like to thank Puhutes for this useful post:

Hey there
I have the same problem and even in summer, when you would think that it would be better, I even struggle.
The last time I was at the doc he gave a lotion - Nutraplus from Galderma and I can only say that it works wonders. Not as expensive as the other lotions and creams that I have tried. ( really...far too many!)
My skin takes it in so fast and there is no fatty film so you slip into your clothes without getting stuck. You just need a tiny but as it spreads a thin film. I am really impressed and as soon as I am out the shower rub myself in before the pulling and drying starts. |

You can buy it at Apotheke or Drogerie. | | | | | Just got back from the dermatologist and he prescribed this for my baby daughter's very itchy eczema. I've just applied it and it's about the only thing in the last week that she hasn't caused her to scream like a banshee when I applied it. So it looks good so far.
He also recommended original Nivea. Funny, I always thought this was a 'cosmetic' product and wouldn't have thought to use it but he was a big fan.
I personally use Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream (I have sensitive skin that goes horribly dry in the winter). I'm also not a big fan of expensive potions and as I live way out in the sticks it's not easy for me to get hold of (there is a shop in ZH or I have to plan ahead and get in the UK). When I've finished a pot, I have used other creams but always end up going back to the Kiehl's.
Can't help re the hair as mine is much, much better here than in the UK. One benefit to being out in the sticks, up in the mountains with drier air |

We just got a water softener installed, it's brilliant.
If you don't have such an option, try Ojon Restorative shampoo and conditioner - yes, it's very nourishing, but actually keeps your hair clean longer, as it makes the scalp think it does not need to produce so much oil. Worked for me.
For body, this is great: https://www.lush.co.uk/product/252/K...in-Body-Butter
you actually use it in the shower, but works like body lotion.
When it is really cold, the only thing that works for my face is Dr Hauschka Rose Cream.
If it's not that cold, like right now, just dry from central heating, I would recommend using oil. Decleor and Clarins do good stuff, currently using Dior Capture Totale oil, which is also excellent.

I like the Pelsano products, which you can get from all pharmacies. My little girl also has eczema, and it's the only brand that calms her itchy skin.

Natural oils like simple olive oil does wonders. I find that most creams don't work on me, I need oils in winter or balms.
I tend to use Lush products as they're don't contain palm-oil (it's really tough to find palm-oil free products) and their Dream Cream and Dream Wash combo works really well. I really love the soothing calomine in the shower, especially when my skin was cracked in the beginning of winter.
It's really much better now.
