| | | Extremely dry hair and skin
Hi All,
I tried to search for some solution for my problem with dry skin and hair, I found many shampoo and cream suggested by EF members, But can anyone please advise me for some home remedies? I don't use any chemicals in my hair and even I use hair dryer in very low temp once a week. I use coconut oil before washing my hair but still it's very dry |

Hi,
Why don't you try this shampoo:
DUCRAY KELUAL DS Anti Schuppen Shampoo 100 ml.
It's very good against dandruff and dried scalps... |

Apparently, if you don't wash your hair for a few months, it goes through a disgusting greasy stage and then comes out the other side shiny and clean.
A few women with long hair have tried this on Himalayan climbing expeditions.
I'm not suggesting you need to camp out on top of the Rigi for it to work.

I had a similar problem when i was living in Indonesia. The air is not dry so i was much surprised when i had dry hair and skin. went and met a doc and she said i lacked Vitamin D - who would have imagined that ! She gave me some supplements and asked me to change my diet. in about 3 months i was fine Maybe you should change your diet and drink plenty of liquids as well as include green leafy vegetables and see if there is a change.

It was hard resisting not washing it for a couple of months, but after that it was as Tom1234 said - shiny and clean. Was impressed by that, but doubt I could go mroe than a few days without washing what is left pf my hair...

I posted about this last week... Dry itchy skin post ( don't know how to add the link) but has been mentioned above by MD :-)
I bought Garnier cream With Urea after a recommendation. Applying it twice a day at the moment and seems to be working.

Plain ordinary cold pressed Olive Oil.
For skin, and hair.
Just add 2 drops to a 1 franc size dollop of shampoo, and you wont need any conditioner.
For skin, a bit rubbed on both hands and then smoothed over skin - the skin absorbs it. Also a cure for "old-age" skin that is brittle.
As an aside - I bought a tub of "Milk fat" at Landi, and find it wonderful for all over body. The Swiss great grandmother of the family recommended it. ( It`s used for cows udders so they stay soft and pliable), and the farmers wives use it for their bodies.
500gr for Sfr5. Contains no preservatives or perfume.

Hair – I was sitting in a good hairdressers and they were questioning why I had dry hair, When I said I washed it every day, they told me for my kind I should not. Now tend to wash it about every 4th or 5th day except for beach holidays. Have heard for many that olive oil works, but for me not, as have masses of hair and it got all over my pillow cases. Henna do a neutral product, ie without the red colour. I used to use it, one can either put it on if you are using a sauna, then great as will work well that way, otherwise you should either use a tight fitting shower cap or wrap cling film over the head and sit and wait for about 30 minutes without a sauna. (Years ago I had one of those hair-dryers with the hood on so would use that, but don’t have one anymore) Either way it will need to be rinsed off before drying.
Something else I used to use VO5 hot oil, not sure if it is on sale in Switzerland, I used about 2 or 3 of their tubes as I have masses of hair, so a bit pricey for me.
Now-a-days, I tend to let my hair half dry before using hairdryer. I use serum whilst using hairdryer as well as after. Takes a while to know exactly how much to use, I put blogs into the palms of my hands and rub in, you can always add more later, but can’t take it off. There are various makes for Serum, would suggest you try them out until you find one that works and then look out for offers for it then to be less expensive. I am generally happy with my hair 24/48hours after it has been washed. I do add a tiny/ little more the next day & perhaps the following day. It looks very shiny, once it doesn’t, then it is time to wash it

AVOCADO OIL, a bit pricy but very much worth it! And may i suggest that you should think about giving your body the oils that it needs not only from the outside but also from the inside, crushed Linseeds and Omega 3oils are great helpers.

Recently I heard someone speak enthusiastically about using baking soda, instead of shampoo. She swears that her hair looks and feels far healthier than it did before she started using it, and now doesn't need to wash it nearly so often. ( I think the baking soda was dissolved in water, then rubbed in.)
For anyone with very dry hair - don't use a hairdryer, but let your hair dry naturally.

Some years ago I had an allergy on my breasts, my doctor told me could be anything and suggested I use that for rinsing my bras, that have been doing ever since and never had a problem. Does mean I handwash them & great surprise how much longer they last, ie by handwashing them.
Dry hair, unfortunately if I do not use a hairdryer towards the end of naturally drying, it bushes out too much. I do try and let it dry as much as possible naturally, time permitting.

Cold pressed is more green and thick. Mostly they are cold pressed, look to see if they are green enough if unsure - or it is usually written on the bottle / can
olive oil you can buy in any supermarket
In the UK you can buy very small bottles in pharmacies, but pro rata you are paying either 10 or a 100 times more
