Go to the UK, I went to Accuvision.co.uk, they probably have the best laser available & there surgeons are as good as they get.

I looked at doing it in CH over a no of years & never found anybody I really trusted, you only have 2 eyes be VERY careful who you let touch them!

Yes I completely agree with you!

I saw an ad for focuszone in a tram and I thought ok Im not doing this with someone based on an ad in a tram.

Surely there must be reputable eye surgeons in Zurich though - I cant go to the UK or Ireland as Ive 3 young children and want to do it locally here.

Hi everyone
I had laser eye surgery last year, booked through Optical Express in the UK. Best thing I ever did! I actually had the surgery at their French sister company, Laser Vision in Strasbourg. The staff is excellent, all English-speaking and very caring. I can't recommend them highly enough...and it's much cheaper having the surgery in France than Switzerland.
Good luck!

The risk with OE is being a large chain they have lots of surgeons, some will be rather better than others. In the UK they try to hard sell so I walked

Just a side note - One of my mentor's is Dr. Tennant. He did 90% of the research and development for laser eye correction. I am working with him on his new project - the Biomodulator.

If you would like to email him a question, I might be able to get an answer for you.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery in Zurich

Trick of the trade kinda - go to your local optician and ask who they'd recommend. Go to a few actually, and ask who they'd recommend, and why.

While they're not likely to say specific things bad about any particular doctor (after all, they still need to maintain professional relationship), they should be full of glowing praises for the good ones, if a few of the opticians recommend the same opthalmologist, that's the one to see.

Not sure that works in CH, they will recommend 'family', It's comes down to how good is the surgeon on his worst day plus how advanced his laser is.

I only wanted to have 1 eye done, every surgeon in CH wanted to do both so they earnt twice as much money. The eye I left alone is 20/25, the surgeon in London agreed that was perfectly good functional vision & should not be touched! The slight risk of complication outweighed the tiny benefit I would get, assuming the result was spot on. In any case a result of 20/25 would be concidered a sucess........

I would love to get it done but the permanent nature of it scares me; rather wear glasses than have permanent complications for a cosmetic gain

Re: Laser Eye Surgery in Zurich

While it's true that the opticians may well recommend "family", that's why I suggest to go see a few, and look for a common recommendation.

Also though, most doctors that offer LASIK (or other corrective eye surgery) tend to do free consultations - at least in the area of the world I'm familiar with. Check if the ones you're interested in offer this, this will give you a chance to not only find out more about the surgery and how helpful it may or may not be for you, but also give you a chance to check out the doctor and his / her staff, and see how compatible you find them.

Many of the companies that offer free consultations are into hard sell, I paid for consultatons in CH & he was still just after money!

The bizarre thing with Acuvision is its a free appointment, no hard sell & they never call you up. They give you a price in an envelope when you leave, thats it!

Unless the person has had the surgery & really understands whats it about, I don't think they could give you a recomendation, most eye doctors I ever saw wear glasses!

Re: Laser Eye Surgery in Zurich

I can't help you select a good Eye Surgery Centre, but I can provide you with an overview of available centers so you don't have to wade through all their websites:

augenlaservermittlung.ch

This is a site I am currently putting together to list all eye laser surgery centers in Switzerland. The site is still in Beta, so lots of info is missing (a rating of centers will be up in a week).

The centers in or around Zurich are:
- Vedis
- Laser Vista
- IROC
- FocusZone
- Eye4Life (Olten)
- Laservision (Uster)

Re: Laser Eye Surgery in Zurich

I also am looking into having refractive surgery done. I am not a candidate for Lasik as my vision is too bad and they would have to laser off too much of my cornea (actually my ophthalmologist in the US didn't feel comfortable doing it but stated that I would find many who would do the procedure...dubious eye surgeons in his view). I am a candidate for intraocular implants though. I am currently researching that and weighing my options/risks.

I found a resource via the American Academy of Ophthalmologist that linked to an international database of Eye Surgeons including Switzerland. Dr. Trüb in Zurich was listed who my eye doctor in the US was vaguely aware. Also a Dr. Theo Seiler of the IROC in Zurich was listed and I know of 2 people who have been to him with good results (although they had work done recently within the past 3 years so long term results are still unknown).

Here's the link. Good luck.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery in Zurich

I did mine in Istanbul. Dr. Efekan Coskunseven. One of the best ones in his area. Though if you go to such doctors with reputation of being best in region, he has so little time per patient. He can not sit with you long and explain what is what in detail. Also he was way too arrogant saying I will certainly be satisfied. In Switzerland it will certainly be better explained as they dont have the same patient traffic.

Anyway it is a decision you have to make. there are certain risks true, but you are the one to accept it or not. I dont believe in this (for me nonsense) belief that the surgery is not done since a long time, you dont know what will happen bla bla. It is being done since enough time in my opinion. 12 years ago they were talking the same thing when I was considering it. It will never be enough (long time proven tech) for the people who are scared.
Or why eye doctors dont do it and wear glasses.. My regular eye doctor had his eyes lasered as well. And asked me why I am struggling with lenses when my sight is so bad (-7).

I'm over 50 and have had two procedures in the last 18mths.
However this was PDT for a medical condition as opposed to just remedial treatment for standard visual defects.

But a laser's a laser.

I am aware of some people in their 60's having it done, but bear in mind if the eyes focus at infinity reading glasses will be needed for most people over about 45.
Some people intentionally get 1 eye under corrected for this reason.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery in Zurich

I can read without glasses, and can also wear contact lenses (which I usually use only for sport). Is it really worth my while getting this treatment done? I don't want to need reading glasses after having surgery, plus I'm in my mid forties..

Decisions, decisions....
