The expenses on alcohol is what I spend on weekly food for two persons.

Re: weekly expenses for food

This thread deeply depressed me. I started to mentally add up what we spend on food...needless to say I have discovered why I can't seem to shift those few (aka..many) extra pounds

Re: weekly expenses for food

As a single person I buy quite a lot of stuff and freeze it. I make a stew and freeze 3 quarters of it in single portions.

I also hit the Coop just before closing time on a Saturday and get lots of stuff at half price.

I don't know how much I spend in a week, but I and the cat eat well. usually a snack like lunch and then a hot meal in the evening. He has a choice between Whiskas and Friskies!!! Even though the flavour of the day these days is Felix.

And Gata, you are a wee liar!!! I remember buying you a malibu the other night!!!!!

Re: weekly expenses for food

Half price coop stuff bunged in the freezer does work well.

I live in a ski resort, which is expensive. Once a month or so I go here to stock up: http://www.aligro.ch/fr/lentreprise/les-marches-aligro/

Sorry it may not be of much use to you in Zurich, but will hopefully be so to someone in suisse romande. There's one near Lausanne, and one near Geneva.

edit: It's a cash & carry, so you need membership to shop there - I got a 'Gourmand' card just with a swiss address, no residency, just by walking into a store. cards can also be applied for online: http://www.aligro.ch/fr/lespace-clie...et-newsletter/

Re: weekly expenses for food

Who needs anything else than Coop or Migros in Switzerland? Those places are great and convenient. Why go somewhere else to find the same thing?

If you're looking for variety, quality, and cheaper prices, go to France (Mulhouse) or Germany (Konstanz) once a month and stock up on the good stuff.

So, all the better-quality lower-cost stuff is in other countries with freer markets? Color me surprised.

We spend about 175CHF/week for 2 persons but only buy meat/fish/seafood one time per month (maybe). This of course excludes alcohol too!

Do you have Aligro around Zurich- it's a bulk food store for the most part but they sell lots of other products too and have a nice beer and wine selection.
Otto's is cheap and Manor has grocery stores too.
175chf per month is a good budget!

Single guy here, and here's my typical weekly food expenses:
60 - 5 lunch days at the company cafeteria
150 - 5 weekday dinners; lunch and dinner at home on weekend

others
42 - cigarettes
20 - beer bought from Denner

Of course eating out can drastically increase your expenses. A night of burger and beer at Pickwicks usually costs me 50chf.
saan mas mura ang bilihin sa zurich?
