274.17chf/week not including alcohol. 462.32 including alcohol. Yes, there are places you can buy food in Switzerland.

There's a couple of other shops, like Denner and Spar.

We normally go to Germany once a month for a large shop - Lidl is coming into Switzerland - www.lidl.ch and are looking for staff. Now and again we venture into Austria and also France and make a day of it.

hi bevilachka, I do a lot of shopping at the markets. The local ones like Milchbuck tend to be affordable and excellent with seasonal fruit and veg, fish, cheese and bread. Great quality too. Here is a run-down of where and when: http://www.zuercher-maerkte.ch/
Not sure how much I spend weekly, but I have gotten into the habit of checking the "Aktionen," or weekly specials at most of the stores. You pay a lot for convenience food.

I usually hit Denner first, then Migros for most milk products and Coop last since they are the most expensive. Also if you have an Otto's nearby they are cheap for shower gel, shampoo, dishwasher & washing machine detergents amongst other odds and ends. We also have access to Prodega so we can stock up on meat.
We budget 900 fr. a month for family of 3. What ever is left over goes in our 'holiday kitty'.
Check out here for weekly savings.

We spend about 175CHF/week for 2 persons but only buy meat/fish/seafood one time per month (maybe). This of course excludes alcohol too!
Do you have Aligro around Zurich- it's a bulk food store for the most part but they sell lots of other products too and have a nice beer and wine selection.
Otto's is cheap and Manor has grocery stores too.

Business entertainment obviously raises the forecast-of-outturn somewhat.

Here are the Manor locations in Switzerland .... nice to see that the Loeb, Globus, Coop, Migros cartel continues to keep them out of Bern itself ....
Quick question, has anyone used them for online grocery shopping & delivery ?

You can have a slapup-meal at Mrs Miggins Pieshop for 50chf, but that wont even buy you the steam of the pasta in this town.
"Most of the time you go to restaurants ?" Then you must have a bachelors fridge which contains some stale bread, a lump of mouldy cheese;an out-of-date yoghurt and some salad that is walking around the fridge - or you are not really living the bachelor lifestyle.

man, i could learn a million lessons from you, huh?
fridge contains fruits of all kind mostly used to make my bowl of cereals each morning, sanissa, butter, raspberry jam, philadelphia, a brie cheese,
milk, rivella, fruits and several joghurts. then some crispbread is around (i do not eat propper bread, only 2 semmeln on sat and sun) and nutella. freezer contains pizza. i do not spend 50CHF for all this stuff. since max got me into these fantastic migros pasta extravaganza, i stick to those instead of the migros budget crap. yesterday i have ordered from lily's and these b*stards charge the double price what a menu inhouse would take. but i did it-> shitty lumbago.

I only shop in Migros or co-op as we don't have a car.
We spend around 350CHF per week for 2 adults and one child, this includes a couple of bottles of wine or beers and our lunches.

About the same here, 2 adults, 1 baby, approx 1400 per month but less alcohol and more cat food.
That also includes household items, washing up liquid, toiletry etc... | Quote: | | | | | I only shop in Migros or co-op as we don't have a car.

Single guy here, and here's my typical weekly food expenses:
60 - 5 lunch days at the company cafeteria
150 - 5 weekday dinners; lunch and dinner at home on weekend
others
42 - cigarettes
20 - beer bought from Denner
Of course eating out can drastically increase your expenses. A night of burger and beer at Pickwicks usually costs me 50chf.

| | | Re: weekly expenses for food I spend from 60 to 100 on average, with the occasional 150 here and there per week. I have a comfortable wine and alcohol stipend, as we moved from southern Burgundy, and the Foire aux Vins just finished. I can't ever concieve spending 200 or more per week. I am mean we are only a family of four. Plus cooking in my profession, so almost zero conveniance pre packaged whatevers. I put alot of stuff back when I think if I really want it, I can make it at home. And then most of the times I forget that half and hour urge I had at the store, and make something else at home. When I am shopping in Swissland, it's Denner's, which actually most of the food there is flavorless, so I get base foods, then a trip to Migros. But I have been getting in the habit of every 2 to 3 weeks making a big shopping in France, at places like ED, Hyper U, Lidl(well Lidl is as last stop, not really why I go there), and anywhere else. I suppose if I was entertaining people for business I would have a higher budget. But I am not. So, at 60 per week, we lose a little of the fat, and at 100, we do just fine. | |
