We are moving to lugano in the next months but will spend the first 2 weeks of January there. I and my 5 year old daughter would like to meet with other families (especially with other little girls about that age) to get to know each other, play and exchange experiences. My daughter speaks only german so far, but that will hopefully change soon. Currently we are staying at Parco Maraini.

Welcome to Lugano! Have you looked into the American Women of Ticino (www.awot.ch) or the International Women's Club of Lugano (www.iwcl.org)? Both organizations have activities for kids. These may be a good start! I also have a daughter who is 5 and a son who is 8. They were 3 and 6 when we arrived.

Both speak English and Italian. We arrived here 1-1/2 years ago. Neither spoke any Italian when we arrived. They speak very well now! Your daughter will pick up the language in no time.

If you're church-going folk, St Edwards has a decent amount of families and you can pack your kids off to their Sunday School: www.anglican.ch/lugano

If you're not, it still might be worth a visit to get a foot in the door

My husband and I are considering taking jobs in Lugano. We would arrive in about 6 months. We have a daughter who will be 14months at that time. Does anyone know where to go to find daycare information in the Lugano area? I have heard that you must get on a waiting list early. I am concerned we won't be able to find care for her in time. Do you have any info or advice?

If you are going to move to another village or town you'll probably find the addresses for the local daycare on the specific town's homepage.

There seems to be very little about Lugano and children on here. Don't they have children in Tessin?
