| | | Daughter being hassled at hockey match by other kids
We have season tickets to the local NLA hockey team; my wife and I have seats, our 2 girls (13 and 14) have standing tickets, and are allowed in the children-only standing area, some way away from our seats. After the last game, our youngest informed us she had been teased, hassled and kicked by a bunch of 6-7 boys, around 10, 11 years old in the children's area. They had teased her about her hair (she's really blonde), her hat, her A&F jacket etc. When she turned round to remonstrate with one of them for throwing popcorn and empty ice-tea cartons in her hood, another, standing a couple of steps up, kicked her in the arm. Her friend (a boy) also told them to stop, but they just teased him too, and even our eldest and her 2 friends went up to tell them to stop, but without success.
People might say it's just boys being boys and we're overreacting, but she was really, really upset and and I have never heard her call anyone a "f**cking dickhead" before . It totally ruined for her what otherwise was a really good evening hockeywise.
I've told her that if they are at next game, to let us know beforehand, and if they start playing up, to go to the security guys near this section. If that fails, I will go around there myself and talk to security.
You think this is the correct approach? I'm not sure what else to do, or what I can do. If the security fail to act, I will write to the club itself.

The boys are dickheads and need to be dickheaded.
I think your approach is sound.

I think you should mention it to them now, i.e. we are season ticket holders and we expect you to do your jobs... this is what happened last time etc.
That way when it happens again there's history for you to refer to. It is a shame they (your daughters and their friends) did not tell you then and there, and that you were not able to act on it in situ, so to speak.
Yobbish behaviour needs to be stamped out ASAP, especially in kids.
Hopefully they won't be back or they were from the visiting team?

If there's one thing I've learned from teaching teenagers, it's that some will not change until they've received official warnings or have felt the consequences of their behaviour. When change finally comes, it can be quite brilliant and a relief for all involved.

''People might say it's just boys being boys and we're overreacting,''
(this is not directed towards you OP, just a rant in general)
This whole damn Boys will be Boys attitude needs to stop in this world. Thats how women get raped, groped and teased in public.
We think its cute and nice when our boys are sluts, but the day our girls wear a short skirt, all hell breaks loose.
Happens in so many cultures, thats why Abusive husbands are bred to believe its ok to mistreat women.

Hopefully they won't be back or they were from the visiting team? | | | | | We thought about it, but decided to wait and see. I think we will tell her to inform security, even if she sees them there, before they start playing up. The next game is this Friday (against Bern ). Yes, I wish they had let us know earlier, but they didn't .
She said she recognised one of them from previous games, but he was alone (typical, huh?) or with other kids. They were home fans. | Quote: | | | | | Next time get seat tickets for girls as well next to you. | | | | | Easier said than done; they wanted to stand with their friends and there is a huge waiting list for seated season tickets and there's no guarantee they would be anywhere near us anyway.

Good approach. I hate when this happen. I had a story with our neighbor's neighbor. 14ish years old with 2 other friends went on the roof of our neighbor. I went on our terrace to have a quiet place to talk to my dad when he told me about his cancer. These boys heard me speaking French and started abusing me verbally with bitch here, f*** you there in English. I was already enough upset....
When I came back in, I told my husband and he went to the house of that little dickhead. The boy answered while the two others were hiding being the couch. Husband told him off and asked him if he will call his wife a bitch again. The boy was shaking.
Never heard from him again.
I also told my neighbors about these boys going up there roof and they apparently have many problems with them. I told them if I see them doing this again, I'll call the police.
These kind of teenagers think they can act without any consequences. If they act like arse to your daughter and friends, chances they are doing it on a daily basis too.
They need a lesson.

Though I totally understand that your daughter was upset and the kids clearly passed the limit, is it really Security's role to go ank keep order among a bunch of kids?
I think you should try to speak to the boys' parents, and have a look at what's going on there yourself. Couldn't you spend a match somewhere close to where they are to be ready to intervene just in case?

As someone posted above, if this behaviour isn't nipped in the bud, they will just think it's normal behaviour. If these kids were throwing stuff on the ice, or at other spectators, wouldn't you expect the Security to react?
We don't know the kids, let alone their parents and I'm not allowed in that section wth my ticket.

If a bunch of men start to misbehaving this way toward a woman and friends during a match, chances they would be kicked out of the place.

However, having been to many hockey games here in Switzerland, I can say that security measures at NLB games are somewhat lax (Can't comment on NLA as I haven't been to any games as yet.) and many offenses, such as smoking in the stands and harassing other fans are unfortunately all too common.
