School Talenta Zurich

I have a gifted and talented son aged 9, very high IQ who has been send to a Swiss Forderschule in September 2012. Since then we have had 12 meetings with the school and it is clear that the school is struggling to meet his needs, which is having a detrimental effect on the child.
He is strong in maths and music. Has anyone used the School Talenta in Zurich? http://talenta.org/

Hi Telandy,

I have just stumbled on your post, even though it was a long time ago, I wondered how you progressed from there? I hope you found your way successfully.
We have a 9yr old son who would be described exactly the same and after much torment and angst in the Australian school system we find ourselves about to dive into the Swiss system. I would appreciate any advice based on your experience thus far.

Feel free to email me directly.

Many thanks.

So sorry, I mis-read your join date as opposed to post date. Sounds like your situation is current so probably no advice for me! Good luck though.

So your son is still in Förderschule? Which one is it?

Re: School Talenta Zurich

Talentia is a lovely school and my son did a maths workshop there recently. In Zug at least, it is very small, 21 students in total when we looked at it.

My son goes to a small-ish Tageschule with around 50 students total with 7 in his grade 1 class. They do individual advancement in what the kids are good at, which in my son's case is maths.

How exactly is your son's current school struggling to meet his needs? We had a tough start to the second term with behavior problems and boredom but thankfully things have settled down now. PM me if you want.

Although not in your area, this school and programme have developed specific schooling methods for gifted children. http://anhugar.com/en/ Perhaps contacting them about methods or approaches may help your son and/or his current school.

Hi Telandy, did you finally find a school that suits your chuld's needs? My son is 6.5 yrs old but way ahead of his peers. I would also like to get him tested for giftedness. Would you have any recommendations how to go about it in Kanton Zürich?

Hi Chandana. We tested our daughter with Frau Huser, at Licht blick
http://www.praxis-lichtblick.ch/de/
We were happy with it, although pricey
Good luck.
And if anyone has other inputs on the Talenta schule, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks

Re: School Talenta Zurich

We have a friend whose son is at Talenta.. They seem happy with it. Their other child is in a bilingual Montessori school which they are also very happy with.

Re: School Talenta Zurich

For testing if your child is over 4.5 in canton Zurich, you could ask for a referral to the school psychologist, and from there they can do some general screening tests and refer for further testing. Or you can speak to your child's Pediatrician and ask for them to refer. testing in their mother-tongue is recommended, although this may not be easily obtainable, and using the normal channels most testing will be in a combination of German and possibly English. The question will also be what the goal of testing is - what doors will it open for your child?
