Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

Hello everyone!

We are expecting our baby in Feb 2014 and we are quite busy planning/preparing the needs for the baby. So the first thing it came into my mind was the baby stroller or bugaboo as some others call.. Can we get it ordered from Germany or does anyone know good online German shops? In Zurich itz gonna expensive to buy a new one

Cheers!
K

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

We ordered a Hartan stroller (Racer GT) from http://www.babyonlineshop.de/
You pay the price without German tax and they deliver to Switzerland at reasonable rates.

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

Just to be (pedantically) clear (sorry), a Bugaboo is a brand of stroller, not another word for stroller per se.

You might want to consider a trip to Germany to pick up a stroller around, e.g. Basel and look to get the 19% tax back. Around Basel, there's a Baby1 in a village called Binzen (http://www.babyone.de/shop/fachmarkt/BabyOne-Binzen).

Depending on the overall costs, you might have to pay import duties, but ultimately it could save you money. However, it is a treck from Zurich.

Alternatively, look for second hand ones on ebay.ch or ricardo.ch.

Good luck.

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

I don't know how quickly you need one, but it seems like Bugaboos are everywhere, so I suspect that the secondhand market is fairly active. I bought a new stroller back in 2008, but if I could do it again, I'd get a used one and save the 600 CHFs. The high end strollers really last forever (or at least, through my 2 kids) with very little wear to show for it.

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

I got an email today from Expat-Moms-In-Switzerland from someone selling a bugaboo with sleeping bag and cup holder for 700 CHF. They come up pretty often there-it may be worth joining, also for other baby supplies (it is a Yahoo group).

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

Digging in to Stroller market is really a hard job because there are many at different prices and levels of quality. I have no experience using this. What I am considering to buy a stroller are,
1. well-known brand (bagaboo, TFK, babyjoger??)
2. price
3. size and weight
4. overall appearance and comfort design(just buy feeling and little knowledge from the ones we touched at shops)

so far, I still cannot make any clear decision of what to buy given our budget from 500 to 1000 CHFs. It is a big investment, so I would not like to purchase blindly

Any one could advice here?
Thanks

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

We bought Mountainbuggy mini for our baby. It claims to be the lightest (and still stable) stroller and it folds really easy with one hand. I have been very satisfied with it after one year but keeping an eye on strollers in city, I found cityjogger a good invest too and in the case of mountainbuggy if you are tall or daddy is going to help, the swift is much better.

Get one with BIG WHEELS. Preferably the kind that have air in them, like bicycle wheels. They steer better, roll better, push better on any kind of uneven ground (think snow, gravel, cobblestones...) You will not regret it.

Also, go high-end but secondhand (or third- or fourth-hand, most of these top-end brands are built like tanks!) rather than mid-market and brand new. Way better value for money, especially if you factor in resale value when you are done with the thing.

Don't get hung up on buying one with a load of accessories, you don't need most of them and the few you do need, e.g. a rain hood, you can always buy separately. (These footmuff things in particular are overrated: what on earth happened to blankets? Harrumph.)

I have twins so the market was a lot narrower for me: I finally found a fourth- or fifth-hand Mountain Buggy with aforementioned BIG WHEELS and no accessories at all. Bought that for CHF 70 (not a typo) and I couldn't be happier with it. Strollers are only a "big investment" if you decide you want them to be one.

I'm expecting my first baby and I have no clue on which brands are considered to be the top range versus mid-market, or even, which brands exist. Which brands are considered to have good quality? Is there any website that compares different baby products and brands?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Bugaboo/Baby Stroller

Ive used second hand strollers (Maclaren, Quinny) for my first but when i started expecting my second one (15 months apart) I invested in a babyjogger city select. The quality is fantastic and I am more than happy with it. Its versatile and since im out with my boys a lot using public transport its just what I need.
We just bought a single unit first and the adapter and second seat when my second one was 6 months.

My friend who had her second boy about the same time as me decided to go for a phil and ted one. I had read a number of customers complaining about the quality on the web. And for sure she has been back to the shop to have the brakes fixed a number of times and the tires are completely worn out. When she complained the sales person said its normal for the tires to be replaced after one year and these things are not included in the warranty. So I would definitely suggest investing in a good brand as sometimes cheaper is more expensive.
