Pregnant with twins

Hi there,

I am pregnant with girl twins. I wondered if there was anyone else out there also pregnant with twins? Would be nice to know someone else in the same boat

Hi Nickie

Congratulations! I'm no longer pregnant, but I had my twins just over 2 years ago. So if you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM

All the best.

Had my boys a year ago. They are lovely, and it's not that bad and had as they predicted to me. So, don't worry and enjoy.

Re: Pregnant with twins

Hi there,

I am pregnant with twins due in February. Any other twin moms/moms to be in the Geneva area? Are there any twin groups that you know of? Looking to connect with other twin moms to gain advice, share experiences, etc.

Cheers!

Twin dad here, other end of the country.

I have one piece of advice: sleep now while you can.

Re: Pregnant with twins

Hi, I am also pregnant with twins, based in Zurich, due in March 2015. I would love to meet others in the same situation or if anyone knows of a twin group in Zurich? Lots of questions needing lots of advice. Thanks!

I know it won't help any DB, but just for info- our best friends in the UK had triplets...(3 girls) when their first daughter was 18 months. They were hesitating about having a second one at all. Oooops. They all survived. They were told they were having twins... and loe and behold, on the day, a 3rd one popped out- all perfect, in the days when scanning was not quite as precise as now.
Bonne chance.

And congratulation to both future twin mums (the above is VERY rare, so don't fret ). I had no idea, but apparently the chance of having twins is 1 in about 85, so not so rare.

It might depend on how good your french is, but there are a few groups around Geneva and across the border into France. Here are some links anyway.

http://www.jumeaux-geneve.ch/
http://www.expatparent.ch/links/ quite a few useful links here.
http://www.expatparent.ch/?s=twins you'll need to scan down the page a bit.

Congrats to you all. As a dad of twins, I can say that they are double the trouble, but triple the fun. My two just turned 3, and listening to them chatter away to each other is hysterical.

Hi all, I'm expecting twin girls any day now... Anyone have any tips for managing them in the first few months? I am hoping my parents will come out in January and stay through March. Good idea/bad idea?

Good idea - I have no experience with twins but for both of our kids we had help from both sets of grandparents and it really helped a lot!

Good luck with the birth and enjoy your new little ones :-)

Defo a good idea! But also have to say my mom sometimes drives me crazy, add on lack of sleep and its a possible explosive situation...as long as you know its not all going to be moonshine and roses. Good luck!

Re: Pregnant with twins

Do you have LOTS of space- and do you get on with them REALLY REALLY well? As said above, lack of sleep and generational disagreement on how to deal with new borns can be truly explosive? Depending on your finances- it may be better to employ someone for a few weeks or even months- live in or out.

Hope all goes well- looking forward to your news.

ROFL - you reckon anyone with twins to clothe, feed and change will have cash left over to pay Mary Poppins?

Not always possible though and often more problematic with twins.

And even where possible not remotely cheap!! I dunno if everybody's this way, but for me protein cravings during twin pregnancy were nothing compared to those during twin breastfeeding.

But yes, as soon as they're old enough to eat solid foods it'll be M-Budget all the way....

----------------------------------

To batucada: my inlaws were here for the first three weeks (1 week in hospital, 2 at home). Their help was invaluable but at the same time I was glad to see them go and just finally be alone with my babies. I really would not have wanted them to stick around for months, laundry or no laundry.

Advice I can give you: forget the housework. Seriously. Forget ALL of it. Keep the kitchen one step above 'public health hazard' and drop the rest. It's only for a few months.

Leave the house with the babies as often as you can. It's a hassle getting them both ready, but totally worth it once you're out. Bask in all the attention from strangers. You might as well: people are going to stop you and ask questions and even take pictures, so you might as well enjoy the temporary celebrity instead of letting it annoy you.

Get a sports bottle for your water. You need to stay hydrated, but it's only a matter of time until you spill a glass and the cleanup is work and who needs more work? If you drink tea get a thermos for your tea.

And the #1 tip given to me by my fantastic midwife: don't change anything that works. Not for any reason and certainly not on anyone else's say-so. It won't feel like it the first few weeks, but you are the expert on your babies and your home situation. Grandparents, other moms, even other twin moms are not. Find a way of doing things that works for you and your babies and stick with that.
