Recommendation for child-friendly restaurants in Zürich

After a frustrating time trying to find a restaurant with something even vaguely resembling child facilities, can anyone give their recommendations for restaurants in Zurich which offer facilities such as highchairs and nappy changing areas?

Preferably it would be for those restaurants offering brunch / lunch.

I know that Sprüngli at Paradeplatz has highchairs, as do the restaurants in Jelmoli and Manor but having rung round a few other restaurants during last week, it's clear highchairs are a rare beast in the city's restaurants.

One restaurant I called even asked me why I wanted a highchair .

Anyone any recommendations / experience?

I could do with this too, looking specifically for non smoking restaurants.

I'm not sure what kind of food you're looking for but one of the child/family friendliest places I've ever seen or been to in Zurich is: Pizza Pasta Ciao. The one located on Asylstrasse 125. The food is good, the pizza is good, the wait staff is incredibly friendly and there are usually families with smaller children there, although the atmosphere is still very nice.

Depending on the age of your child, and the weather, the Tobelhof (http://www.tobelhof.ch/neu/englisch/) is good because they have a nice play area where the children always seem to be having fun and you can eat outside. Next door is the Chaesalp (http://www.chaesalp.ch/) if you want to do a fondue dinner in an old barn (same play area).

Am I the only one who watchs Swiss TV? I watched a show just two nights ago with two restaurant owners from ZH who refuse to allow families with children dine in their restaurants! Is this thread a joke in response to this?

A little bit outside the city is Grüt Farm, it is very child friendly & has a playground & small petting zoo.

Re: Recommendation for child-friendly restaurants in Zürich

It's a bit out of the way from Zürich, but it's well worth the drive on a sunny saturday...

At the top of Alter seebodenweg küssnacht there is a grill restaurant with outdoor seating amongst the trees and plenty of 'cold refreshments' for the parents and an adventure play area of any kid's dreams close within eyeshot. It's got trampolines, tree house with twisty tube slides, stilts of various sizes (tried and true) farm animals wandering around and all this with a view up to Rigi and down to the lake.

Food is great. A choice of meats that they grill within sight (incl horse meat for the adventurous types) and all the usuals like bratwurst and chicken etc. The salad buffet is really nice and fresh. Chips and other trusty sides are also on offer. For dessert they have a very tempting menu of icecreams and sorbets etc, if you have room.

If you're feeling energetic you can park in Küssnacht and wander 20mins or so (more with kids) up. It's a good walk and it makes the beers taste particularly good.

We've been back several times. If you don't mind kids running around having a good time, it's nice to cycle/hike to as well.

Re: Recommendation for child-friendly restaurants in Zürich

The Coop Restaurant at Bellevue. Great service although it is a "self-service" and juggling trays with kids in tow is no easy feat.

First experience: I was looking for a quiet corner to (breast)feed my baby and the manager organised table and a free drink and colouring pencils for my son. Note: I did not consume anything else!

Second experience: with one son and baby in tow. They found me a place to sit and fetched the high-chair.

Third experience with all 3 kids: a busy lunch-time, it was quite crowded and despite that: high-chair organised, I was able to microwave baby food that I had brought with me. Genereally friendly atmosphere, despite the crowd.

Kid's menu costs CHF 5.90 incl. drink and surprise toy. The food is good and there's a selection of organic foods/menus.

4 out of 5 stars from me. I'd give it 5, but they still have a smoking/non-smoking area instead of just non-smoking.

I am afraid that McDonald will have to be a well checked option:

Anything else I found radiculously expensive

Back on topic- maybe the op could tell us how old the child is to better guide them.

Re: Recommendation for child-friendly restaurants in Zürich

I found them better here than in SA though, besides they cost 4 times more. Mayonaise makes a difference here... My birthday is on the 6th of July, hope Fadzai won't have to leave soon (some complications)...

Are you coming to Salsa Lover's events lately?

We quite like the Nooba at Kreuzplatz - it's thai/japanese inspired food, always very fresh and quick service, they have several high-chairs and if you go early for dinner there is usually at least one other family with children dining there...http://www.nooba.ch/

Had a good experience with Mövenpick. They have highchairs and they even provide you with little pencils and colouring sheets to keep them amused for a nanosecond.

The only child friendly restaurant I know of in Zurich is COOP on the Bahnhofstrasse. The restaurant on the top floor has an area with toys where you can corral the children while you eat. They have cars and a video paint screen.
