Hirslanden Im Park

Has anyone given birth in this clinic? I am pregnant and want to hear some experience from you. From the website it seems awesome, but I prefer to hearing it from you.
Thanks!

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

I can only add my experience: choose a hospital with full facilities, for you and the baby.

A friend of mine's wife gave birth at a small clinic in Munich. There were complications, and a mistake was made.
She was being taken to a major hospital when she died in the ambulance, it was held up in rush hour city traffic.

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

My wife gave birth to both our sons in the Hirslanden Zurich (other side of the lake) I can only say it was excellent from facilities to staff. A nice touch was we could order extra meals so we could have dinner together every night and no pushing to make you leave. Almost the opposite, minimum stay was 4 day to ensure you are rested and breast feeding comfortably. If you have the insurance go for it. They are also building a "Hirslanden" extension to Mannedorf hospital, which is our local hospital and we have also had great service there over the years.

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

My wife gave birth there. We loved it. I had a knee surgery there, best hospital stay ever (and only stay ever so nothing to compare with, had same surgery in US twice and it was out patient, here, I stayed for 4 days, superb service, food, didnt want to leave).

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

I have a colleague at work who used to work at Klinik Hirslanden and she only had good comments

I'm probably going to have my baby there as well even though it is a bit far away (Swiss standards) from my home in Pfäffikon SZ.

All the best to you.

Though it may be a fantastic hospital with great service, I would personally prefer a hospital with a neonatal care unit just in case for some reason your baby needs special care. At least that way you're both in the same place as opposed to having to cross the city to see your baby

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

Most maternity Units do not have a NICU. There are specialist childrens' hospitals in Luzern and Zurich (most Major cities as well I presume!). The Kantonspital will sometimes have a 'low risk' NICU for those infants that Need a bit of extra warmth or maybe a bit of Oxygen, but anything more they will Transfer to Luzern or Zürich.
Here you will find a list of Neonatal Units in Switzerland. http://www.neonet.ch/

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

Spital Zollikerberg and Triemli are the only hospitals with neonatal care facilities above and beyond what midjan mentioned.

Interesting... My doctor offers me to give birth in Klinik im Park as I have a semi-private insurance. I made a remark to him that my first child (born in my home country) needed intensive care right after birth and she survived only because I was lucky to choose a hospital with an excellent intensive care unit. And he answered that I do not have to worry and that all the hospitals provide sufficient neonatal care. But the last posts in this topic make me worry again...

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

Hi, have finally decided to go to the Kilik im Park. I am also afraid if something happens to me to my baby.. but i think they have the minimum resources in that case. Hopefully everything is going to be all right!! Best of luck to you too.

Elisenda, I wish you a safe and easy delivery. If you have time, please write a few words afterwards with your impression of the clinic. I still have a few months ahead to make a final decision.

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

I also gave birth there to my 2 children in 2008 and 2011 and it was very good.

Would definitely reccommend it and would go there again for any other hospital procedures.

You will need to check with your doc just in case complications are expected. For example, I am not sure they would do a delivery after cesarean or a reverse birth etc.

Keep in mind also that in case for any reason you cannot go there, Triemli and Zollikerberg are top notch hospitals, maybe with a bit less "boutique hotel" feeling but perfectly good lots of my friends gave birth in both and all was very good!

All the best to you!
K

Thanks for the reply. I definitely want to try a VBAC, as I have no other contraindications to have vaginal birth except for the first cesarian more than 4 years ago. I informed my doctor about it. My doctor said that this depends more on his experience rather than on the particular hospital. I will definitely discuss this with him again.

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

Wow, no wonder there was no post about this clinic in 5 years now. I had a recent visit to the clinic with my whole family because my husband had an emergency - fever and pains. That was the most horrible experience of all time! And I would like to share it with you, my fellow expats in Zurich. Do not believe them when they tell you Hirslanden is a 5-star clinic! They speak English, but they refuse to speak the language with the patients, instead - only local form of German. The acceptance process was done by a nurse who put on all of my husband's cards "Dr. Gregor Lindner", who is the head of the Emergency room, but it turned out that another doctor Matthias Poguntke served us, and he was not nice at all and even laughing at some moments. At some point he made my husband go to another doctor, who is not located in the clinic (they don't have even the main professional doctors there), and our whole family had to transport him with pain and fever to another doctor. We asked for a pain killer and Mr. Poguntke said in German "Sorry, we are not a pharmacy!". No diagnosis was made, no recommendation, just simply with all efforts looking for our money. Our Swiss insurance wasn't accepted (!WOW!) and they simply billed us over 2,000 CHF. I was considering this clinic to give birth at, but now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! Especially if you're foreigners. These people are a bunch of racists and racketeers.

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

If you have basic insurance in Switzerland, then you will be referred to a hospital which covers this for treatment. Hirslanden in-patients is primarily for patients that are insured above basic health insurance.

I doubt that your OH was seen as an "emergency", but was probably referred on to the hospital that could treat him under his level of insurance coverage.

It is up to you to understand and determine which hospitals are relevant under your chosen insurance plan.

Re: Hirslanden Im Park

I gave birth in Klinik im Park in 2014 and it went well. I have semi-private insurance and I only paid some small amount of money for the documents for the child, the rest (about 15 000 chf) was paid by insurance. I have only positive feelings about this hospital.
