Re: Influenza has arrived

I bet the eucalyptus, and something menthol - like, perhaps mint in steam would help. What about hot peppers? Does that help unblock your sinuses?

I know it's gross and probably not environmentally friendly, but vics vapo rub in steam worked well.

As for the weight, chalk it up to water retention. Keep drinking fluids though - you'll flush it out soon!

Re: Influenza has arrived

The most amazing sinus cure I`ve ever experienced was in South Africa - when an old Zulu lady brought me a big bunch of fresh Marijuana leaves and stems ..... told me to pour boiling water over them, towel over head, and inhale thru nose, breath out thru mouth.

It worked .... like no doctor`s medicine has ever worked! My nose ran with a life of its own, and I could hear creaking and squeeking and feel loosening of gunch in sinuses - and could breath again, and no more sinus headaches!

Now, I`m hoping the Hemp seeds in the birdseed mixture springs to life in the garden here

When the kiddies have a cold, I cut an onion into two with a few cloves planted in it, and place it on their bedtables at night. The smell is quite strong, but it does miracles to unblock the nose and breathe better through the night.

Must be a Swiss thing - missus also does onions (minus the cloves) all around the house ..... smells like a burger joint.

Please someone give me a miracle cure for congestion in my head...
Get to a pharmacy and buy some of this nasal spray (the one on the left). Works wonders. Sit upright for a few minutes after taking it, so it gives the full effect. If you can lay on your back and prop your head and shoulders up a bit when you try to sleep, that also helps. I find I can fall asleep that way, and then at some point I naturally scoot down and onto my side in my normal sleeping position.

Feel better soon!

Re: Influenza has arrived

Alternatively, you can always try sniffing Charlie and Billy - that'll work.

Please someone give me a miracle cure for congestion in my head. I can't sleep because my face feels like it's being punched over and over. It hurts so much and I really just want to sleep. Safe to say I've really had enough of this flu now. I swear Liam Neesen style, I'm saying this to the person who infected me... I will hunt you down, and I will kill you.
Nasal sprays, what 3Wishes recommends, are no good for me, they dry out my nasal mucous membrane.

Instead I sniff lukewarm salty water with my nose. The idea is to flush the nasal cavity with the salted water, as the salt keeps the nasal mucuos membrane lubricated, which reduces slime production and thus nose clogging, which in turn keeps me from pushing the nasal slime into the other skull cavities when sneezing(?)(blowing my nose). I fill my right hand, bring it up to my face, and sniff all the salt water.

Ordinary kitchen salt will do the job just fine. Pharmacy stuff like "Emser Salz" is a waste of money, and kitchen salt is much more convenient (the Emser Salz ointment to lubricate is a fair replacement for sniffing, but not ideal).

How salty - I find it hard to say as I go by sight. It's probably around one teaspoon for 1 glass (2-3dl). If it feels too salty in your nose then it is.

HTH

Re: Influenza has arrived

Something I learned from my daughter-in-law who works in a Phlegeheim here - try to keep the air humid - as the `flu bug attacks dry nasal cavities - which happens in winter with the heating systems drying out the air.

Since I invested in a Humidifier last year ... oops, no, not going to say it or I`ll get jinxed

It would be ok if it wasn't soooooo long. I've ask my boyfriend to pick up some decongestants on the way home but this is just effing ridiculous now.

Re: Influenza has arrived

You have my sympathy Kamarate. I came down with the flu on the 17th of Feb and I still haven't totally gotten rid of the cough. First few days on top of the coughing and sniffling, I simply had no energy to do anything. Wanted to do nothing more than lie in bed all the time. Been years since I had it and I'd forgotten how miserable it can make you feel.

Re: Influenza has arrived

Well my delightful experience this year went on for 5 1/2 weeks - flu, severe sinusitis then a lovely cold to top it off. Still, a friend's son was ill for almost 3 months!

Hope your cough goes away soon, makes it so hard to sleep and walk uphill etc.
