Divorce: Thai girl married to Swiss man

Hi Forum.

I have a girlfriend from Thailand. She lives in thailand, but she is married to a man from switzerland (married in switzerland), and that man lives in switzerland.
I like to marry my girlfriend, but ofcource she will have to get divorce from her swiss man. Everybody agree about the divorce, and she dont want any money or any support from her swiss man.

I think that i should not be a problem to get a divorce under these circumstances. And i would think that it should be possible, that she should be able to get divorce without havning to go to switzerland.

But her swiss man tels her that she have to go to switzerland to times to get the divorce.

Does anybody knows anything about, if it is possible for her to get divorce without going to switzerland.

if they married in Switzerland they have to divorce in Switzerland.

only people who married in thailand and registered they marriage with their swiss embassy in Thailand can divorce in Thailand.

There are certain things that you need to be aware of.

Divorce is not like buying a pair of shoes. It is a very serious act that you undertake. Certain parts of the process are compulsory and here you need to be aware of legal minimums such as your "girlfriend" has an undisputable right to half of the pension money of her husband collected during the marriage.

While for much of this act a lawyer can act as your proxy, indeed must, in the same way as you cannot get your lawyer to proxy for you at your wedding you cannot get them to proxy at your divorce ie you must turn up...

If both parties are in agreement with finances and what not, then it should only be one visit in front of the judge that lasts about an hour tops.

I would also check that the Swiss divorce is recognized in Thailand. May save you some unwanted surprises when you go to marry your girlfriend.

I have been looking around in the forum, and other links
that i could find, and your answers have helped me.

I Know now that she have to go to Swiss, but i am still not sure how
we can do, so she only will have to go one time to swiss.
