Loestrin 20 [pharmacy-related question]

Hi All,

I had a look through the forum and couldn't find an answer.....I, or more precisely my girlfriend and I, are looking for Loestrin 20 (a contraceptive pill). The brand is important so does anyone know of a pharmacist that can supply it in Zurich or surrounding area?

Any help appreciated.

Chris

You cannot buy contraceptive pills over the counter your girlfriend should go and see a gynocolagist they will give her the pills which are best suited for her here. I also had to swap my pills when i got here.

Does not necessarily need to be a gynaecologist, a GP will also provide a prescription.

Re: Loestrin 20 [pharmacy-related question]

Also note that interestingly enough in Switzerland all preparations containing norethisterone are in general used for menopausal treatments, not contraception...

But you can ask for Ovysmen which is similar to Loestrin (note however the excipiens are not exactly the same, so you'd need to ask a doctor whether it still fits your specific requirements).

........and in all liklihood will contain the same 'ingredients' as the one you use currently but will have a different name. Panadol and Daclofen are one and the same thing.

Re: Loestrin 20 [pharmacy-related question]

Thanks for the rapid replies. A couple of points to clear up. We currently buy "Jasmin" over the counter in our town and so I know this is possible. I also noticed that loestrin variants are used as a form of HRT. Jasmin was a change from Loestrin 20 (recommended by the pharmacist) which my girlfriend took in the UK but has worse side effects hence the search for Loestrin 20. Maybe a doctor is the best way forward to advise a better match.

Regards,

Chris
