Have you tried Kids Camp. They are based in Oberwil, Basel and have been open since Autumn 07. They run a day care for 2 year olds and up. They are open from 8am to 6pm and provide lunch and snacks, although I'm not sure about breakfasts. My little boy has been there from autumn and loves it, the staff speak English but also teach and speak German, and there are children from all nationalities there. However they are quite booked up at the moment but they are always happy to talk to parents.

Hi Nikki,

There is an English daycare called TinyTots which take kids from 6 months.
The caregivers are very nice and I like the program, my two daughters 2.5Y
and 6Y go there. The 6Y goes to public kindergarten in the morning and tinytots
in the afternoon.

and the staff speaks english but they speak swiss german to the kids. It is
a good thing so they get started with the language.

I recommend Tiny Tots - They have two centres, both long established. I have worked in one and was more than happy with the quality of care given ( have not been, everywhere I have worked!) One of the features I particularly liked, was the fact that there was a good mix of both local and expat families.

Maybe this is too late to reply since this was a few months ago but I just saw the question.

There is a system of daycares throughout Baselstadt that coordinate with the state kindergartens to provide all day care for working parents.

There may be a long waiting list. When we registered I was given priority because I'm a single mom and had to work but I know other families with both parents working that found a place. It helps to get your name on the waiting list early.

I think they open at 6:30 in the morning and close at 6 pm. The staff take the kids to kindergarten and pick them up for lunch and after school. When my daughter was a small I often joined them there for lunch too.
My daughter was in a daycare center (Tagesheim) in Klein Basel from 3 months and we were very happy with it. The staff were very well trained and caring. It was really more like a pre-school.
My daughter's kindergarten was assigned based on the nearness to her daycare center. She switched to an all day primary school at age 8 so she didn't need the daycare anymore, but some friends of hers still go for their lunch and after school homework help still at age 12.

I have a different though similar sort of "situation". ISB do not provide after school care after Grade 3 which means that from end August I need someone who will collect my 9 year old from Aesch and take care of him until 5.30. This is proving really difficult to organise. There is after school provison at Reinach but I am nervous to let him take the tram on his own, so an alternative might be to find someone who is already collecting from Aesch and going to Reinach. It is really tricky! Any ideas/potential solutions welcome!!

Why not post up something on the classifieds, asking if there is a mum who could do this as there are a lot of Mums who make this journey.

There are quite a lot of older (G3, 4 and 5) children who travel on the tram up towards Reinach so your child would not be alone and it is only 10 minutes. He could perhaps then get off and take himself into the after school care at reinach? Could he buddy up with another child doing the same trip?
