Re: Playgroups in Zurich city...

These groups are playgroups for parents and children.

If you are looking for a job, I recommend that you go to...

http://www.circleofschools.ch/en/index.cfm?treeID=8

I am happy to email you the list of playgroups if you contact me at...

I don't know what "pointless posts all of them" means. Hopefully it wasn't meant to be rude to someone who was just trying to share information but was asked by the admin to remove the list because of the email addresses and issues of SPAM.

Re: Playgroups in Zurich city...

It would be useful if you could change the titles to "English-speaking playgroups in ....."

I have requested that you substitute the "@" characters in the email messages with "at" as you've done above to keep spammers from harvesting the addresses from the forum. You're free to repost the information after that. We were previously automatically substituting the "@" character with a "*" character to do this, unfortunately that caused other problems with the forum.

Re: Playgroups in Zurich city...

A friend of mine is looking for a place at a central Zurich nursery for her little one (9 months) but they are like gold dust. Is there anyone on the forum with little ones in a playgroup where they know there are spaces at the moment?

Our little fella's place is full so I'm no help to her...

It's not sharing.
It's touting for people to join *your* yahoo groups... the ones that many people here left. "Extw4ts in Zurich" etc etc

Re: Playgroups in Zurich city...

Whatever people think of some of the yahoo groups, as a mother of a two year old when we arrived (now a three year old), all I can say is that without the 'families in zurich' and 'expat moms' yahoo groups I would have remained very very isolated. I don't know of anywhere else that lists (and keeps it updated) all the English speaking playgroups. I'm not talking about spielgruppes or krippes but the groups where you get to meet other parents with little kids. The ones that are run by parents for other parents, for no commercial gain.

These two sites, in conjunction with the EF site, are also invaluable for asking all those seemingly little (and sometimes not so little) questions you have when you move to a new country with kids in tow.

We all know it's not easy changing countries, but I think bringing kids along, or having them here, means there are additional issues. There are lots of posts about kids on this forum, too, of course, and if I can answer I will, but often the information I have I got from one of the family yahoo groups first.

It seems counterproductive to not be able to link to these two groups when they deal with such specific issues about living in Switzerland as an English speaker with kids. I know that there have been times when I've needed information urgently, and I think that someone in a similar situation would be very grateful to be able to access it, even if it means being referred to another site.

Kate, we have no problem with Carmen or the Yahoo groups in fact many people here are also members of Carmens groups. We just operate in different ways with different methods of sharing information.

Re: Playgroups in Zurich city...

Hi Lou, I appreciate that the two sites have different ways of operating. It just seems a shame if one contains information that would be very useful to some EF members but they don't know about it. There must be some mums and dads out there desperate for certain bits of info that are readily available on those sites, e.g. the playgroup info, and, in the spirit of helping people to adjust to Switzerland etc etc ....

Is there some way of referring to the sites (and perhaps a brief rundown on the kind of info you can get there) in the family matters section without directly linking to them? Of course, it would be nice if it worked in reverse, too, but at least this would be a start!
