Re: Family Insurance

In general, each person has his or her own insurance policy rather than a family policy. Students are sometimes eligible for reduced-rate insurance, but if you're not in Switzerland on a student permit then you're not eligible.

If your income is very low you may be eligible for a subsidy but be careful - part of the family reunification process is certifying you will not rely on any public assistance. Also if you plan to request permanent residency (C-permit) you also have to prove you've not had any public assistance. There's some question as to whether insurance subsidy counts as public assistance, but why chance it?

Insurance is not massively expensive if you take the basic mandatory coverage with the highest franchise/co-payment.
