What type of massage uses elbows?

I'm trying to find a deep tissue massage that uses the forearm and elbow to release knots, and I don't know what it is called in German.

I just tried the Klassische Massage but it was way to gentle, only using finger pressure. Besides Thai Massage (which is not covered by my zusatzversicherung of course), which other types uses a similar techniques?

I thought Bindegewebe Massage, but the description says it uses mostly fingers as well.

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

A Sports Massage or Deep Tissue Massage. Ask them to use trigger point, which is when constant pressure is applied to a knot to release tension, with thumbs or elbows.

Edit: Just googling "Sport Massage Zurich" brings up a few options.

German keeps the English wording: Fifty shades of Grey.

Tiefengewebe-Massage, Tiefengewebsmassage, Bindegewebsmassage and Ellbogen could help you with Google. No first hand experience, sorry.

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

Shiatsu uses elbows and bottom of one's wrists, etc. But it works with muscles differently than a deep tissue sport massage.

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

Thanks all. i'm looking for one in Winterthur so that narrows down my choices a bit. Loved the shiatsu massage I got from Tokyo, but the ones here are just too soft. I was not elbowed.

I was thinking of lomi lomi, as sports massage's description seems to be like classical massage but just stronger. But i could be wrong. Haven't tried that one yet.

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

Lomi Lomi, is Hawaiian massage using hot oil and the forearms… but I don't think it's what you are looking for if you want deep pressure.

I would book a sports massage and say you specifically want some deep tissue and trigger point work. (I'm a massage therapist)

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

Thanks Island Monkey. Is a sports massage typically full body, or area specific?

Can be either. Although if you have pain in one area, it is probably more beneficial to have a part-body and focus more on that area and more specific techniques than just a general full-body,

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

Just a bit of a search, these guys do Sport Massage & Trigger Point http://www.massagewinterthur.ch/68/willkommen

When you go for a massage be very specific about what you want with the therapist. They can tailor the massage to you. Two people may book a sports massage, but they don't all have to be the same. One person may want a full body, general deep pressure.. the other may ask for work on a shoulder injury. With all the time to work on one area you can use many different techniques to help the injury/pain.

I had physio to treat shoulder and upper back pain, which involved this kind of massage. And insurance pays for it.

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

AI agree. You should try to get your massage from a physio or look for someone who does sports massage, trigger point or MFR (myofascial release). Look for someone using MET and NMT.
I like lomi lomi massage and recently I had it in Zurich. It wasn't with so much oil but still not deep(therapeutic) enough to deal will tightness that sometimes hides deep in the muscles. I use lomi for my clients but often I adapt it to what happens in the body. Experienced thai massage therapists can do that as well but it takes years of training.

Re: What type of massage uses elbows?

Maybe this? http://www.deepbodywork.com/
which is part of http://esalen-massage.com/

Quite a lot of results in googling "esalen winterthur".
Not typically recognised by the medical insurance, but sometimes an acknowledged physiotherapist, or other massage therapist, may also have training as an Esalen practitioner.
