Kinderzulage - für nicht Erwerbstätige [Child Benefits for Non-Earners]

Does every child qualify for this money - CHF 200/child in AG? In Canada there is a $100 per child regardless of parents' employment. For our family with one income from IV, and a SAHM (have to take care of everybody), do we qualify? We are in AG.

My OH insists that we don't, because we have above CHF 42000/year. We know all our obligations (many), but nothing about benefits (are there any?) in CH.

Thanks!

Should be paid by the IV, income level doesn't enter into it.

Ask the IV people.

Re: Kinderzulage - für nicht Erwerbstätige

Employees receive it with their salary, the employer has the application forms.

If you are not working, you receive it from the kantonalen Familienausgleichskasse. If you have neither, it is included with the social security payments.

Cantons have different payment amounts. Back payments are made. If the child, or one of the parents lives abroad, there can be difficulties claiming, & even exceptions. I don't believe there is a limit made depending on salary. The company personnel manager will have full details.

Re: Kinderzulage - für nicht Erwerbstätige

According to this link you are only entitled to claim family allowance if neither parent is working if your annual income doesn't exceed 42 300 chf. ( although it says some cantons are more generous and this may be the case in Argau)

Re: Kinderzulage - für nicht Erwerbstätige

Usually one parent claims the child allowance, if that parent becomes unemployed, the other parent can claim the allowance. If both parents are unemployed (Or only a single parent) then the qualifying previous year's salary limit is indeed Fr 42'300 per year (Net salary after AHV & health insurances etc, ie the amount declared for the federal taxation).

The minimum payment for each child, age from 0 to the end of 16th year, is Fr 200,-- per month.

After 16 years there are other payments: if the child is in full time study, and apprenticeships are included, the "Studying allowance" is Fr 250,-- per month.

The OP can find further information in Aargau at

Das neue Bundesgesetz über die Familienzulagen

The calculator does not ask for salary levels, but the employee should earn at least Fr 7'050 per year, to qualify for a family child allowance,

Other allowances, supplementary benefits, are available for poorer families.
