Diabetic foot ulcer-doctor suggestion zurich

Hi, My mother is having diabetics and under medication who has developed foot ulcer (yesterday foot was clear, as of a sudden today morning we see a small hole and fluid coming out from the foot, really scaring ) and needs treatment for it. Anybody who has consulted a diabetic foot ulcer specialist here in zurich ? Can you suggest one ?

She doesn't have a General physician here as she has come here to visit me as a tourist for 3 months. So i am sure i am gonna pay from my pocket so need some advice on the right hospital or doctor. Thanks all.

Does she have travel insurance? MAybe give them a ring and see if they have any restrictions on who she sees. Other than that I'd go to an emergency department, as you won't get to see a specialist on the same day without a referral (I wouldn't think).

Re: Diabetic foot ulcer-doctor suggestion zurich

These ulcers are quite common so any local doctor should be able to give some decent treatment. Most doctor practices handle emergencies during 8 to 9 am. So turn up punctually at 8 am and you might get a quick visit, a tube of cream, and told to come back next week for a longer chat.

The emergency centers are not always the best solutions. Many sick people are waiting there so you pick up infections, often you get pushed down the queue as bigger problems arrive. They have young inexperienced doctors, you often see a different person on each visit, & they are expensive. I would always recommend a local doctor above the hospital.

This doctor is near Solothurn station and has an English mother, & so he speaks excellent English

Diabetic ulcers can be very serious, limb and possibly life threatening.

If you haven't already been to an emergency room I suggest that you do so as soon as possible.

Hopefully any doctor worth his salt will not simply send you home with a tube of cream, if he does, go somewhere else.

A small ulcer could become a large ulcer without prompt action, there is a risk of infection and even gangrene. Even if the ulcer appears small, it could be hiding something larger and more serious.

If the ulcer is on a weight bearing area, your mother needs to take the pressure off the foot in question. If possible, cover it with a clean dressing, sterile if possible, check her footwear for anything which may be causing pressure or friction.

I hope that your mother gets the treatment that she needs and that the problem is soon resolved.

Good luck!
