Be careful with doors

Hi EFers

While cooking a while ago, I decided to open my sliding door kitchen cabinet. Paying close attention to the contents of my pot, I then slammed the door shut as it is very heavy and tends to not close if you just give it a gentle shove.

Well - I had forgotten that I had left my finger in there. Cue

I immediately grabbed an ice pack and froze the finger, indescribaby thankful that I own the thing .

Please be careful around doors!

Ow! Poor you! At least you didn't drop your pot.

I've slammed drawers shut once or twice with my finger still in them.

For real? We have two kids and have these things on nearly every door! Prevents hurt fingers and also prevents slamming doors!

IKEA, COOP, Migros, Jumbo .. Everywhere like that has them

Or cut your own from a piece of pipe insulation.

Re: Be careful with doors

I just used to tie an old sock in a figure of eightbetween the handles on either side of the door, which then acted as a barrier around the lock bit.
My sons used to run in a big circle through the living room, hall and kitchen, slamming doors as they went; over and over again. Great fun apparently.

It won't work on sliding cupboard doors, but is much harder for little fingers to remove than those clip-on things. And free!

Re: Be careful with doors

We need a warning on a forum to look out for fingers in doors?

Thos is an age old problem that simply requires some common sense

Common sense is to make sure I don't pour a 5l pot of boiling water on myself by accident because I'm paying more attention to the cabinet than the pot. Accidents can happen irrespective of common sense, ya know

Both - but substitute peas for that blue chemical (?) that's in the hot'n'cold packs from pharmacies.

Re: Be careful with doors

Then the next step is to learn how to do the old trick of heating a needle and pushing it through the nail to let the blood escape so the nail does not fall off. Everyone has finished lunch and not started dinner yet?

Moving a metal filing cabinet with sliding doors on its side and the lock moved out of place.
