You do know, it's an human being. The sex of the person or the sexual orientation is none of your business and does not affect the qualifications of the person to do his or her job.

You got groaned for trolling. The only reason I didn't bother groaning you as well is because it's Friday. And Friday is the correct day for stupid threads like this.

How well do you know her other volleyball coach, teachers, pfadi leaders etc etc? Do you have regular dinners with them? Have you met their families? Doctors? Physcologists? And what is stopping you from dong the same with the new woman?

I do know this person. I played volleyball with him and he is an excellent player. When he transitions he will be playing for the womens team which is a whole other issue but the point is, their sexuality is not the topic of conversation, his is.

You are being groaned at because you are clearly discriminating against the coach.

Google translate (sorry couldn't help myself):
If a person is discriminated against on the basis of elementary aspects of their personal identity, ie because of personality traits that are so essential that it is not possible or it cannot be expected of the person to get rid of these features, the prohibition of discrimination (Art. 8 Abs. 2 BV) shall apply.

So what's the issue then? To see a woman with a penis coaching your daughter? Because that's what she is, a woman.

And again, how the sex of a person has anything to do with doing their job?

So, problem solved, you like to know the coach, and you know the coach. Plus, as you daughter is a girl (I presume) and the new coach will be playing for the woman's team, then it's great that her coach will know the other issues. (I wasn't really aware that womens and mens volleyball had different rules)

That is exactly right. He is an excellent player. However his skills are not what is being displayed or discussed to 8-12 year olds. Its the fact that he is a man wearing fingernails and has make up and he is receiving an operation in a year. Is that really necessary to share all that info with them?!?!

If they spend all the time in every coaching session discussing the upcoming gender reassignment surgery rather than playing volleyball, then you have a point. However, if it was a general introduction to head off questions that would detract from the training then it seems like a good idea to address these right at the beginning.

Why not? I'm sure the girls had questions or maybe she decided to explain before any questions were asked. It's not like it is something totally new that no one heard before. Being born in the wrong body isn't something to be ashamed of.

Better for them to see it now and being comfortable with it. I have more of a problem if you pass your judgement to your daughter.

Re: Transexual as a coach

Poor kids. If only they had parents who could discuss transsexuality with them in a non-dramatic way and at a level they can understand.

Still - easier to bunch 'em with weirdos and paedos, eh?

So we have to wait until she is post-op to refer to her as her? Transition is not quick my dear, it takes years, she probably already has the hormones of a woman, as well as the psyche of of a woman, and wears the gender appropriate clothing of a woman. If it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, and says it's a duck... They ducky, she's a woman

Re: Transexual as a coach

Mountains...molehills...

Is the person any good as a coach? The most important part I think.

If you think your daughter is going to ask questions, or is asking questions then spend some time explaining to her about transsexuality. As a parent you get kids asking all kinds of awkward and embarrassing questions. Just take it in your stride.

The fact that someone is openly LGBT does not mean they are a threat to your child. Quite the opposite in my opinion.

Cheers,
Nick

You can call her a women as much as you like and he can take as many hormones and undergo as many cosmetic surgeries as he like it will never ever change who he is.

And what does his cosmetic surgery and what the color of his nails will be next week have to do with Volleyball? He can discuss this with his friends but not a bunch of 8-12 year old who he just met.

Re: Transexual as a coach

What exactly is it that you have a problem with? Your daughter's safety? Having to answer difficult questions?

Sorry mate, but this is the 21st century and not the 1950s. LGBT people exist - they have always existed, and they deserve to be treated with the same respect and dignity as any other human being.

Life is often difficult and it is one of the many tasks of a parent to instill in a child that the human race comes in all shapes and colours and to be able to deal with that in a mature way.

Cheers,
Nick
