Birth preparation course in Zurich

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a birth preparation course in Zurich and after reading the information on several threads of the forum I short listed 2 courses: the stork and one in bethanien with an australian midwife. I am interested in a course that is mostly practical, how to breathe, positions, control of pain, etc...I know both courses have good reputation but I would be interested in your opinion if you have visited them about how practical they have been. The one in bethanien for example does a tour of the delivery room and talks about some topics that although interesting it is not exactly what I am looking for. Any first hand experience about any of them would be highly appreciated.

I also have seen a course in birthlight which is about 3 hours and it says is mostly practical but not sure if 3 hours would not be too short...if you visited this I am also interested in opinions

thanks!

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

Dear Ladies,

I take a chance to activate all the fresh moms around to share their experience…

Did you attend a birth prep course in English? Please let me know how it went!

I am looking for a weekend course in Zürich, Basel or Bern. Some courses say that the language is German or English, which I find quite confusing. What if only one English speaking couple appears?

Sharing your experience would be highly appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance!

Cheers,
Vix

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

Have a look here:
- Unispital Zürich (weekend course)
- Hebammenpraxis Zürich (crash course)
- Klinik im Park (private hospital, weekend course)

It really depends on your needs if you book a 3-hrs-crash course or a weekend course. A crash course might be very short if you know nothing about pregnancy, giving birth and the postpartum period. But if you're thinking of taking a doula you might feel comfortable with a crash course.

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

Dear Vix,

I recently completed a birth preperation course in english at the Zuger Kantonalhosspital, which is about 25 minutes from HB 9 getting off at Baar). Though I believe that most hospitals have courses available for a fee and you can attend even if you are not having your baby in that specific hospital. It was delivered throug english and was excellent - here is a link to it, the next one is in October. http://www.zgks.ch/dateien/2015_06_G...ion_course.pdf

Hope that helps. E

Hi Vixy,

I am actually attending an English birth preparation course this weekend at Zollikerberg spital, as this is where we have chosen to have our baby. It costs 450 chfs per couple, with 150 chfs being reimbursed by your health insurance. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi zan81,

Do you have a link about the English speaking course? I only found the German version for 300 CHF.

Thanks & cheers,
Vix

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

We recently attended the class at the Bethanian with the Australian midwife, Kylie. It runs over two days, on a Saturday and Sunday. It's a great course and covers all the aspects you would want. Don't worry too much about the topics, as the class can direct any specific topics they want covered. We did do a tour of the birthing rooms, etc, but too be fair you can do that independently with any of the private clinics with an appointment.

My wife and I went to the one at Bethanien with Kiely who is Australian. We thought it was great as it covered so many practical topics. It doesnt cover breathing exercises but I think for that kind of stuff you can go to prenatal yoga classes. So many topics are covered in this weekend course. You get a lot of info on pain relief options like you want too.

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

Hi ladies,
I am having a lot of trouble getting in contact with any of the birth preparation courses...
We too are having our baby at Zollikerberg spital and would really like to do a course there.. I followed the link and emailed them but haven't had a response, did you contact them via email??
Any info would be fabulous as we need to book in a course pretty soon.
Thanks in advance,
Feret.

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

Hi Feret
I contacted Ulpu and she replied within couple of hours, but they were fully booked for 24-25.10.
Next available date is beginning of December , 6-7.12.
Too late for us, so I booked at Hirsladen im Park, they also have it in English.

Cheers

Tina

Re: Birth preparation course in Zurich

I have done my pre-natal classes last weekend, and there were a couple of girls scheduled for Zollikerberg in the group.

I did my courses in Männedorf Spital (20 minutes away from Zollikerberg). They also have a course in English coming up. Info here.

All courses here:

http://www.spitalmaennedorf.ch/patie...ranstaltungen/

When I incribed myself for the course, I called them and the nice lady helped me out with everything. Perhaps it might be suited for you too.
