Pregnancy in Zurich - What to do

Hi there,

myself and my wife are quite new to Zurich and have a new recruit on the way, but are looking for a little advice on Pregnancy and what to do. In the UK you are assigned a midwife after so many weeks, have NCT classes, etc and I'm wondering if this is the same here.

Also, should anything untoward happen whats the protocol - do you go to hospital, your consultant or what happens?

Any help you can give would be more than gladly received.

Thanks

Do you have a haus artz yet? If yes they can refer you to a gyno. You can also go to one of the hospitals and see the doctors there who will treat her through the pregnancy (may see a different doc each time). Your wife should join the FB group English speaking mums and mums to be. There is tons of info and people ready to help who have been through it.

You can call a gyno or midwife directly and get an appointment if you're not on a GP health insurance model (Hausarztmodell) or on a similar restrictive health insurance model - you don't need a GP to refer you. It depends on your health insurance model. What's yours? Basic, HMO, Hausarzt, Telmed or...?

Even with the hausarzt model, women can see a gynecologist without a referral.

If you prefer a midwife, I think you can do that too, but you may need to contact the birth houses or hospitals directly. Whichever you prefer.

All pregnancy related care is supposed to be outside the franchise. Supposed to be, but sometimes extra costs will creep in. It really depends on the kind of birth she wants.
