Where to file a petition for divorce?

Hi guys,

Do you know where to file a petition for divorce, without lawyer's help?

Which office should be contacted for this purpose?

Hope someone will help.

I would recomend you got to your kreisburo and ask them. They should be able to prove you with all the information as well as giving you all the forms to fill out.

It depends where you got married. If you were married in England and then moved here then you can use this self help guide:

http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/

If it was here then the kreisburo is probably best.

Is that local town hall office that you suggested?

I couldn't find any useful info from there.

Re: Where to file a petition for divorce?

Hi EF

I am living in Bern and also need some information about where to go in order to fill a divorce request. I have to clarify that i got married in the US. I am Colombian and my husband is Swiss.

So is the Swiss law the one that applies or the Us one? (no one of us is a US citizen)

Now Viktor we are two in the same process !!!! Thanks for your help

I was married in Reno and divorced in Zurich. My US marriage was recognized here the same as my Swiss divorce was recognized there.
