Ring up nearest hospital, there is ALWAYS a paediatrician available, either physically or on call
That's very true. The hospital here has a special paediatric emergency number to call.

Re: The doctor is not working today!!

So as things go with kids, by the time the doctor saw my son, he was "better"! Cue nervous smiles trying to explain why I wanted an emergency appointment on a Friday afternoon.

That aside, thanks to your input, I feel much calmer knowing that in case of an accident or emergency , I have the numbers and addresses of the relevant doctors/ hospital handy. Let's hope we don't get to use them

Re: The doctor is not working today!!

Better than my classic fail when I finally took one daughter to the doctor's who looked sort of pityingly at me - don't you actually look at your child's throat when it can hardly swallow and has a raised temperature?
To my mind, a kid who got thrown out of the sewing class for talking too much and ate two large baked potatoes for lunch didn't deserve any sympathy.
Wrong again Longbyt. She got over it ok without my TLC.

Re: The doctor is not working today!!

Clumsy Maman, we're lucky the Troll's pediatrician shares her practice with another pediatrician. Both work part-time but cover for each other, we usually get appointments when we need them. On the few occasions it wasn't possible, we went to the Kinderpermanence by Stadelhofen, and for worrying symptoms or minor accidents (like crashing head first on a radiator) outside of normal business hours we've been to the Kinderspital.

We consider ourselves lucky to live in town where we have everything close by. And waiting time both at the doctor's office and at Kinderspital is waaaaay shorter than what we were used to from Norway.

Re: The doctor is not working today!!

Here it is quite common to simply turn up at the emergency department of a hospital to see a doctor under such circumstances. Maybe for you, it would be the Kanton Spital Baden. Look for "Notfall Arzt" or "Spital".
