New to Zurich; suggestions for finding a nanny?

Hi, we're moving from New York to Zurich in January and are very excited.
One query we have is how to find a new nanny, preferably a live-in nanny.

We've heard of some agencies to use (Perfect Way etc.) but understand they charge about 14% a month of whatever the nanny's salary is.

Do most families use agencies, or is it possible to find a nanny privately?
And if so, how?

Many thanks
The Marks Family

Re: New to Zurich; looking for a nanny

There is a forum member here who runs an agency.

Rockmybaby - Switzerland's only fully virtual 24/7 online Babysitter Booking System

As with all services you pay a fee for someone doing the legwork for you.

I honestly do not know whether most families find a nanny on their own or through an agency.

Friends of mine used a reputable nanny agency in the uk. But I think they went over to the Uk to interview the nanny.

Re: New to Zurich; suggestions for finding a nanny?

My sister is currently working in the UK and she would be interested to come closer to me.
She speaks English, but does not speak German. Would this be acceptable for you?

What nationality is she? If non-EU they can only be placed via special employment agencies here like Perfect Way or Profilia.

Re: New to Zurich; suggestions for finding a nanny?

Most villages have a "Tagesmutterverein" (Nanny association). They can help match Nannys to families. Here's the website for the Zurich one (Sorry, in German only). The usual arrangement is you take the kids to their house and pick them up later. We were able to arrange one that came to us.

http://www.gfz-zh.ch/tagesfamilien

We hired a retired Swiss Kindergarten teacher so that the kids learned Swiss German at an early age (we speak only English at home). It worked great.. except she was from Toggenberg, so our kids started out speaking an exotic form of it (we didn't know at the time that there are several different Swiss German dialects).

I think your sister or her potential new employer would have to apply for a work permit as EU-2 nationals are still under hiring quotas.
