Are we talking bright red? Bright blue? Are we talking mohawk? Piercings? The whole shabbang?

It can say something from:

"I got stuck in the 80's"
"I'm suffering from teen angst and want to show the world my discontempt by defying the colour norms to show I am against you comformists"
"I am having a midlife crisis and got talked into making weird colour strippes on my shortly cropped hair by biased female magazines targeting women of a certain age"
"I like weird colours and I'm ok with it"

Do whatever you want with your hair. If you are wanting to change your look for the specific purpose of finding a partner, be aware that certain looks attract certain types, and though first looks count, a long lasting relationship based on looks might be a fallacy.

Great thing about hair is that if you make a mistake, you can start all over again. Unless you are Homer Simpson.
definitely not red or orange. and no piercings tats or mohawks

my older vet had a cute little feather extension in her short a bit slightly unusually dyed hair (you could tell it was artificial but it was within the range of 'normal'), my emotions ranged from,

thats really cute, i wonder how she did that
how dare she, shes a vet
i bet shes fun in bed

so what do you think dying your hair a few unconventional colors tells other people?
Again, that completely depends upon the person.

One of my closest friends is a high school art teacher. She's beautiful, elegent, always immaculately groomed and has deep red glossy hair. It looks amazing on her because she carries it off so well.

Another artist friend has naturally black hair, latino looks and is stunningly handsome. He always has just a few streaks of blue or red, etc, in his hair and it suits his vibrant personality.

Then there's the friend whose 'emotionally needy', who posts every stage of her various hair colours on facebook.

The point is that while undeniably graceful and elegant, none of those women are sexually appealing to the vast majority of younger men. Unless you're into Gilfs.
I truly don't want to change the original point of this thread in any way (and hope that I'm not), but I found it great that CathHarmony raised this question, and am intrigued how it's now being discussed!

Maybe because of my dads genes, and maybe because I inherited my potential for grey hair from my U.K. mom who went grey in her early 40's (who still married my CH dad, 20 years her younger) in the 60's (who were together until they died in recent years).

But really - are you saying that falling in love / sexual attraction is really only about the colour of one's hair? Personally, have never invested in either a fancy cream or face-lift, but do spend a fortune at the hairdressers styling / dying once a month to keep my appearance at work going.

Really envy those women who don't need to and still look fantastic.

I might share this post one day with my decade younger partner

Erm yeah, great deduction from my statements about sexual attraction, "love is all about he colour of your hair". Glad we cleared that one up then.

I am just saying that grey hair, especially in women, is not a sexually attractive feature. I'm pretty sure that it's an evolutionary and instinctual thing.

Of course that is not taking into account personal charisma or strength of other features which would potentially counter that.

I think that some single silver foxes deliberately keep it grey, hoping for the sympathy shag.
Just read this again- and I find it quite offensive, really... even if in jest ...

but hey ho, each to their own.

Sexually attractive you say Richdog? Perhaps some of us are looking to attract men who can see a great woman beyond the grey hair- and perhpas some of us are definitely not looking for a quick 'sh*g' either? (well lol, I've been with the same man for 46 years so ...)

In your opinion and I'm sure an opinion that many men share but not necessarily universal. Some men do find women with grey hair sexually attractive.

Re: Conflicted [over grey hair]

Honestly I do not care whether people find it attractive or not, my hair colour is the way it is because I feel good with it
And in my case that means hiding the what we call "melkboerenhondehaar" colour (sorry, no idea how to translate that)

In my early 20's, I dated someone also in her early 20s who was prematurely grey.

Re: Conflicted [over grey hair]

I personally can't wait to go full grey. I'm 31, have a few greys here and there and very short cropped hair. I plan on growing it for my next style, not because I don't like it short (I love it) but because I want a new style. I recently learnt that hair is what whatever you want it to be, and if you want it to be this or that and it doesn't look good, guess what it grows back. I can't wait to continue my freedom with my hair - I'm disappointed in myself that it took me 15 years to work out that I could do what ever the feck I want with it.

Sure I had male colleagues tell me that I should never go short. I had a friend say to me after my most recent hair cut "don't worry, it'll grow" even though I love it this length. My parents and some friends hated my fake white hair while I loved it.

You certainly can't please everyone. But you can please yourself. You want to go grey, do it. You want to dye it, do it. The world is your hairy oyster and I say embrace it.

Perhaps EF readers could test this interesting theory by RD.

Can we ask the poster to revert to her original grey locks but ger some surgically enhanced massive boobs, then report on whether this has a positive effect on her interaction with the opposite sex or, as suggested, such shallowness counts for naught and it's the hair color that's the key to attraction.

Re: Conflicted [over grey hair]

Hihi when I met OH on a train at Clapham Junction (April 1970) I was wearing a blond wig cut in a bob (and a very short suede skirt) ... when he came to ask me out a few days later, I had my long blond-brunette hair- he was quite surprised- and fell in love with me- so perhaps it was the hair, but which one - lol.

(maybe it was the skiing suntan though early April 1970- just after I had arrived in London).

Sorry. already got the second bit (just not surgically done), and was at the hairdressers day before yesterday. As for wanting to attract the opposite sex, sorry again, but you're barking up the wrong tree

Re: Conflicted [over grey hair]

what about white, like almost silver white?

Is that shagworthy, it's not grey!

I'm allergic to dye so woe is me. Gotta hope it just turns from silver to platinum and I can sell it then!

Why is sexiness so important? If white hair turns you on or not - who cares...
I love my salt and pepper hair, my husband thinks it looks cool. I couldn't care less if people think I'm not sexy because of my hair.

I work with young children and last summer, two of my little blondes came to me and pointed out proudly that their hair - sun highlighted - had become more like mine!

well 1. it was a topic just posted in the thread, so I saw some humor in it and 2. some of us are on the market for a new partner so it does matter doesn't it?
