English speaking doctor in Basel

Hi all...

Would any of you in the Basel area be able to suggest a GP (family doctor) that speaks English well and is (preferably) female? I have been to one already, who comes highly suggested by many, but she's not for me.

Thanks!

Re: Doctor in Basel

Maybe there is one on that list (if Beat or Lynley is a woman's name?); this is the US embassy list for Basel.

Hi Evilshell, when I lived in Basel (3 years) I used Dr. Blatti +41-61-602-0420. She speaks perfect english, and as far as I know, everyone who goes to her really likes her.

English speaking DR in Basel

Anybody know of any?

And if so, where?

Also, how much is it likely to set me back going for a health matter to a doctor?

Thanks a lot.

Re: English speaking DR in Basel

I've just made an appointment with Dr. Blatti as recommended by laifu above, the address is Rauracherstrasse, 44. The girl who answered seemed very friendly on the phone and spoke English.
I have got AXA insurance out here, I think without any kind of medical insurance it can be pricey.

Re: English speaking DR in Basel

I've visited quite a few doctors in Binningen/Oberwil area. Without exception, they've spoken English, mostly fluently.

Just in case anyone else does a search for doctors here in Basel, I want to point out that this link is apparently "dead."

Meanwhile, I've been investigating the offerings of this link: http://www.doctor.ch/general-practice/

As I've decided to select my own doctor, I'm curious how others have gone about selecting theirs? I used to have very few choices of doctor in the US, limited to those which accepted my insurance. Here I feel a bit overwhelmed.

I'm thinking I want to call and find out if certain ones are accepting new patients and then going in to "meet" them... sort of like interviewing (them) for the job. Am I being odd about this?

Re: Doctor in Basel

If something is urgent, there is now a walk-in clinic near the Basel main station. It is very good and useful for busy professionals too.

Do you know if standard medical insurance covers this? (Assuming one can use any GP)

Re: English speaking doctor in Basel

I've got a list of English speaking Dr's that are located in Basel and around the Basel area. Currently, I don't have a GP, but if you are in need of a list of English Speaking Dr.'s I can give you the names of all of them, just can't give you a review of if one is better than the other.

As far as the other dr's go, pediatrician, etc... I used the list, went to the first consultation visit and if I felt a good vibe I stayed with the dr., it's proven pretty effective and there has only been once or twice I had to leave the dr because they 'just weren't for me'.

Good luck and let me know, it's a long list so if you have a specific area that you are wanting to know about, do let me know and I can minimize the list a bit for you.

I used the one in Zurich, and I was able to claim back with my health insurance (this was in 2003, though).

ETA: The website says they're covered.
