I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this? Is it possible for expats to adopt (from here or from abroad) while resident in Switzerland? I would be very grateful for any advice about where to find out about this and to persue this further. Are there adoption agencies and what would be the first step?

Generally speaking, expats can adopt while living here. You have to have a home study done in the canton where you live. Many expats choose to adopt from either the USA or from agencies that are based in the USA. Instead of going into great detail here, check out this website:
