Sick in Neuchatel

Hello! My family and I arrived from the states last week and are pretty sick. Its a bit overwhelming. I'm pretty sure my little ones have bronchitis. Does anyone have a good Dr recommendation? We are staying in company provided housing just above downtown and don't have a car.

Re: Sick in Neuchatel

If you are sick and want to get seen quickly your best bet is to go to the medical centre in Avenue du premier Mars. You can see a doctor without an appointment there.

Re: Sick in Neuchatel

If you're residents here, you're covered by health insurance from day 1 and your treatment will be covered, no questions asked.
Your coverage as a tourist will depend on your insurance taken out in your home country.

Go by this link if it's an emergency: Can someone explian the swiss emergency medical services?

You have an emergency.
You grab a phone.
You dial 144 if you need to be picked up by ambulance or need an emergency doc to come to your home and 1414 if you need to be picked up by helicopter.
You state where who has what kind of a health issue.
Ambulance, helicopter or in not so severe cases emergency doc in regular car comes over and you get taken care of.
Bill arrives from health insurance.
You pay your share.
For ambulance and helicopter costs, if you have only basic health insurance, insurance pays half (CHF 5k max per year). If you have supplemental insurance on top, insurance might pay more.
For helicopter costs (www.rega.ch) you pay nothing if you are a member (CHF 30 for single people, 40 for single-parent families, CHF 70 IIRC for families with 2 parents).

TLDR: You get taken care of in case of emergency in CH. If you live out in the sticks or high up on the mountain, it can be very useful to get REGA membership. Even if you live in the city, sometimes help has to be super duper fast and helicopter is the safest option.

Re: Sick in Neuchatel

Are you in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which is a totally different town - or where exactly is 'above town'.?

Re: Sick in Neuchatel

We are in Neuchatel proper- a few houses away from the funicular that goes directly into downtown Neuchatel.

The funicular that goes down to Ecluse? Depending on which stop you are at you might be nearer to the medical centre at Portes Rouges.

Re: Sick in Neuchatel

Belgianmum's suggestion is a good one as a starting point.

Edit: posted at the same time as BM's second suggestion. I meant her first suggestion about the Centre médical neuchâtelois in avenue du 1er mars. I don't know the Portes-Rouges one.

Emergency numbers for Neuchâtel city - call them and ask them where they are and how to get there.

The phone number of the center at Avenue du 1er Mars can be found near the bottom.

Hope you have found help and feel better soon. Your profile is confusing as it says 'location La Chaux-de-Fonds'.

Enjoy your time in Neuchâtel once you are all feeling better.

The phone number and details of the medical centre in Avenur du 1er Mars along with the opening hours and directions to get there was in the link in my first list in this thread.

Unless it's a real emergency and they need to go to the hospital that's probably there best bet. There is also an emergency drop in clinic at the Hôpital de la Providence which would probably be better than A&E at Pourtales if it's not an emergency.

Both the medical centre and the Providence are on the main road out if Neuchatel towards Biel near the Jardin Anglais.

Re: Sick in Neuchatel

If you're still looking for one - I used to go to Dr.med. Elisabeth Flammer,
Avenue de la Gare 1, 2000 Neuchâtel
