Re: First aid

To obtain a driving license from scratch rather than converting on then you have to sit a first-aid course & pass the test.

Re: First aid

Look out for "Nothelferkurz" splashed in the windows of driving schools - or alternatively a link (one of many, I am sure): here

While I am sure it's been discussed here before, there are many requirements for getting a Swiss licence from scratch. Those who convert from another country seem to have it relatively easy.

Summarised on Switzerland is yours here

Re: First aid

From the link I posted above - most amusing, which might pale when compared with having to take an eye test or a first aid course:

"The practical test can be taken only three times. If you fail it three times, you are required to consult a psychologist who will decide if you are mentally fit to drive and who can offer you a fourth and final attempt [But you would have to demonstrate a real inaptitude for driving to get to that point.]"

Re: First aid

To sit your driving test in switzerland you need, an eye test, first aid test/exam, theory test and a verkehskund (SP) kurs (not sure what it's called in english sorry) they when you have all this you get your learners licence, then you can start to drive....then you have to pass your test....

These course are run by driving schools and you can do a first aid course with the swiss red cross...

if you need more info just ask....

First aid courses in Zurich

Searched but could not locate any info....

Anyone know of any courses being run by companies/institutions in Zurich? I am thinking of typical courses run for companies who need to provide a first aid responder in the workplace. Could be in German but preferably English.
Any ideas/experiences? Looking for contact details.

Re: First aid

Maybe the Samariterverband can help.

Otherwise you could try the Red Cross in Zürich

Both run courses - I don't know quite at what level though.

A small health coaching company also offers the "Nothelferkurs", as it is called, in English. They are called HEALTHY AND SAFE AWAY FROM HOME, you can find more information on their website, www.healthyandsafe.biz. They have competitive course fees and always get very good reviews.

first aid/CERT/EMT courses

hi

i hope this is the right subforum to post this in. i have used the search function but have not found a satisfactory answer.

i have lived in switzerland for over 3 years and in germany before that. i am a musician and i tour often with decent sized groups of people. Being in the arts my colleagues are frankly brainless when it comes to first aid, evacuation procedures, so on and so forth. becuase of where i grew up (prairies canada) i am used to carrying a first aid kit, multitool/knife, etc. these things are normal as outside of the city you are a long way from anywhere and ambulances will take a while to get to you. i of course also did the courses like first aid/cpr/and outdoors first aid. Unfortunately that was years ago. As i am now the de facto medic/security/safety person/fellow band member for at times up to 30 people i feel i need to brush up on all this stuff again. and not just the put a bandaid on it and kiss it better, but proper first aid. accidents onstage, backstage, transporting etc. can get ugly and involve big metal objects, sharp metal objects, lots of electricity etc. basic first aid and cpr is just not going to suffice.

the red cross switzerland is not set up AT ALL like back home. i could take everything including EMT courses through red cross back home. the courses were thorough, cheap, and required for lots of basic temp jobs. red cross here offers babysitting and pfleger training and links you to sanitaeter verbaende. but which sanitaeter group? becuase there are the generic groups but also the johanitters, etc. rumour has it the quality differs. does anyone have prior experience with this to help me out or point me in the right direction? is there a place to do EMT or EMT like courses without having to go and get a 4 year degree? where can i get outdoor/wilderness first aid if at all possible? do they offer something like CERT (community emergency response team)? or is that something supposedly (but not actually or only poorly done) with zivilschutz/gemeinde? if so, how can i get involved? HAZMAT? WHIMIS? you would be surprised what is stored in the back rooms of certain places we've been. especially during international tours.

one of the few things to still bug me about switzerland and europe in general is the lack of courses to improve oneself that dont end after 4 years with a diplom or equivalent. an example would be that i would like to take baking courses as i am an avid baker but dont want to spend the next 4 years of my life becoming a diplomierte pastry maker. i just like baking and want to learn more, and be a better baker. my girlfriend would certainly approve. same thing goes with first aid etc. the people around me could quite possibly need it. and if schumer hits the fan they will be looking in my direction. i do enjoy the responsibility. i just dont enjoy looking like a fool.

it would be really great if someone could point me in the right direction because i have wasted half the day searching this out and only finding unsatisfying answers.

thanks in advance

im looking for something a bit more comprehensive.
