Hi All!

So I need to have a mole removed and am super nervous about having surgery done in a foreign country. Does anyone know of an English-speaking dermatologist in Zurich?

Also, do you know if it's normal for the doctors here to request letters from your doctors back home?

Mole was removed painlessly and quickly at the first consultation then sent off to the lab for analysis. I saw the assistant to Baenninger who spoke English and was very nice.

In my experience here the doctors have never requested notes from my home country.

I am afraid I haven't had to visit the dermatologist here, but I have had a visit to the hospital. They didn't ask me to get letters from my doctor in the UK. I just had to answer routine questions (is there a history of...in your family, have you ever suffered from...allergic to... etc etc)

He sent me to the University of Zurich for a complete skin exam, and a full body photograph (it is just not possible to follow all the moles i have....). He is an excellent and conscious professional

I have also heard great things about Dr. Barraud, that share her practice with Dr Thuerlimann. She is South African.

If you're that worried about having surgery in a foreign country, why not go back to your own country and have it fixed ?

my husband had a mole on his cheek and this doctor (Hans Peter Bochsler) removed it in no time. he is only a GP and is also our family doctor and quite reasonably priced. but i dont know if he takes new patients because he is rather old. he is in wallisellen. have a look.

another dermatologist i visited for my daughter was also prescribed by him for her hair problem. i forgot the name but its in oerlikon on the schaffuserstrasse 8050 where the big coop is. i will try n find out his name and give it to you.

Okay, first of all, take a deep breath and relax. This is Switzerland, not Botswana. Secondly, removing a mole is not a major operation. It can be done in the doctor's office with a local anesthetic.

Thirdly, all of my doctors here speak good English. In fact, several of them did residencies or Fellowships in the US at places like the Mayo Clinic and Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC.

All that aside, I have a very good dermatologist here, who is also a professor of dermatology at the Med School in Zurich:

None of my doctors here have asked for letters from my US doctors, but it would help if you could give them a comprehensive medical history. I made up a Word document highlighting significant events in my medical history, listing all medications and supplements I take, any allergies and gave my doctors a printout. It saved a lot of time and gave them the necessary background info.

its none of my business but i can understand her/his situation or worry regarding the mole. as i know i am even terrified of needles so if this person is something like me removing a mole can be a great deal.

IMHO, while the OP is correct to be concerned about any surgical procedure, I think his/her fears about having what constitutes minor surgery in a *foreign country* like Switzerland are a tad irrational. This is not a third-world country.

Also, if he/she is terrified of needles, there are drugs like Valium available to take the edge off and help keep him/her calm

I had very serious and bothersome skin problems..Also had a few skin cancers removed..ONE GREAT and sensitive doctor and an artist with minor surgery..I was fully satisfied with treatment and his Engkish is impeccable....Dr. med. Pierre de Viragh

The missus and daughter have been going to Dr Benz for many years now. I have also been to her. She also speaks English. Easy to find. Just two minutes walk from HB. Her location is opposite the bridal shop that faces the back of Globus.

Hi All,

I'd like to ask for some recommendations here.

Basically I would like to track down a good dermatologist some where in or near the city, as I have a couple of moles which i'd like looked at, and possibly removed.

In the UK it wasn't an issue, however here tracking down a good one has been thus far been challenging.
