Differences between integration programs in public schools

Based on the advice here: http://bit.ly/1k7aPS
I'm planning to enroll my 8 year old son to a public school, when we move to Zurich. (He doesn't speak any German yet.)

From what I've heard different public schools offer different integration programs for foreign students.

Can someone give me advice on how to find the good ones and how to tell them apart from the rest?

I'm ready to rent an apartment wherever the most promising school is, but I'd prefer one somewhere close to Adliswil.

Re: Differences between integration programs in public schools

Inside the city of Zurich it doesn't really matter. If somebody who doesn't know German at all joins elementary school, he will probably start in an integration class that may or may not be located at the schoolhouse closest to home, so the way to school might be longer than usual. The procedures and available classes are identical in all five school districts of the city.

I'm not sure about Adliswil and other neighboring communes. Perhaps you can get some specific experiences from parents here, or find it by searching for the commune names. However the majority of users here are satisfied with the public school and are of the opinion that an 8 year old usually hasn't problems in learning a new language. My advice is to announce your arrival to the school in advance so they can inform you and prepare if necessary. Other than that I'd not let the school issue get in the way of the already difficult task of finding an appartment.
