Re: Baby items you wish you had brought with you to Switzerland?

I'd stock up on a pair of good nursing bras. Here they cost about 60fr + for something decent. Also Glamour Mom's nursing tanks are 50fr a pop.

The few things that my mom sends over are the battery operated english speaking learning toys (dress me Elmo for example). When you do find the equivalent, it's pricey and in german only. Oh and english kids books. Most items can be found here if not through another expat trying to clear out as the kids out grow them

I second the nursing bra idea! Especially if you are an unusual size, you may not want to wait the two weeks to get your size sent to you. . .

Also, for english language books, amazon.co.uk will ship (there is no VAT or value added tax, for books, as long as books are the only thing being shipped). However, don't be lulled into complacency-most everything else you'd want for a baby cannot be shipped from amazon.co.uk to Switzerland. This is something I found out by repeatedly adding things to my cart, only to have to remove them once I'd put in my shipping address

Beldona stocks nursing bras up to size E, but you need to ask since they are hidden in a drawer. Only in black though.

If you want to use cloth nappies get them elsewhere. I have only found one sort here and they don't look up to much.

Mairi
Baby waltz has nice adjustable ones called Popolino with poppers and also have rolls of non-bleached disposable liners. Migros sells less expensive plastic covers. Electricity is already expensive for us in Zug and carrying nappies down 2 flights of stairs meant I never got round to using them.

Actually they carry the white bras and the black, but anything over a size D sometimes needs to be ordered (takes about 2-3 days). For over size D the price is more (same goes for normal bras)- where as in the states one could buy 2 nursing bras for the price of one here.

Cribs are smaller in Europe than in the US. The standard European size is 60x120 cm, and the US size is 28x52 in (or about 71x132 cm).

Also, be aware that even companies like IKEA that have stores in both the US and Europe carry different sizes (i.e. the US stores sell standard US size mattresses, and the European stores carry standard European size).

Yes, it might be an idea to buy a couple of matresses ( and sheets/undersheets) if you are bring a crib over from the US - especially if it turns into a toddler bed.
