| | | Pregnant in Lausanne
Hello all,
I am pregnant (3months) and this will be my first baby. I moved to Switzerland almost 6 months ago and would love to meet any other moms to be to chat about baby/pregnancy stuff. I live very close to Lausanne and would really value meeting up with other women in a similar situation.
If anyone is interested please feel free to pm me.

Hello, there have been a couple of previous posts along these lines before, so perhaps try a couple of searches.
Also check out ABC Lausanne: http://homepage.hispeed.ch/abc_group/index.html
And the 'Lausanne Kids' group on Yahoo.
Best of luck with your pregnancy - I'm also three months pregnant with my second baby and had my daughter here just over a year ago and had a great experience. I live in Vevey, so if you have any Qs, feel free to PM me.

Hi,
I'm currently just over 6 months pregnant with my first baby and will be moving to Lausanne (from London) once I've had the baby in July. I'm also a midwife, working in London, so I have a bit of (theoretical!) knowledge of the subject!
Would love to meet up with others when I get over to Lausanne!

Hi,
Congratulations on your new baby and do let me know when you arrive Id be happy to meet up. Actually you may do well in Lausanne as at the moment there seems to be only 1 english speaking mid wife in the area who runs the prenatal courses etc...
Also there is a moms and moms to be group of english speaking ladies who meet up in Lausanne for coffee and a chat every second week. You can bring along your baby if you like but thats up to you, lots of the moms do. They also arrange meets at other times for walks in the park, or playground meets or barbecues etc.. its a good opportunity to meet other women and get to know your way around.
When do you move to Lausanne? Have you already found accomodation?
Keep in touch and best of luck with your move!

Hello Girls,
I am thrilled to read your messages, as I was just about to post my own.
I am living and working in Lausanne and am expecting my first baby end of September. As I only moved to Lausanne last year my social network is still limited.
I would be very happy to meet up soon.

I've just moved to Lausanne, 5.5 months pregnant. We found an apartment, and now I'm working on insurance and finding a midwife.
Can you give me more information on the english-speaking midwife? Also, I'd love to meet up with some other women for coffee. When/where is that?
Thanks for the help!

Hi all,
Obviously not pregnant any more... I gave birth in July and have a 4 month old girl called Isabella. I'm now living in Lausanne permanently and am really missing my NCT mums and babies from London. I'm desperate to meet other mums in Lausanne - anyone know of any groups/meetings/exercise things - anything really that can occupy my time while my hubby is slaving away at work?! I live right in the centre and don't yet drive over here but can obviously use public transport to get wherever.

Congratulations!
There are a few English speaking groups in Vevey if you don't mind travelling. There is a fantastic play group at the English church called 'Little Arrows' and Nestle have a playgroup twice a week that is also open to non-Nestle kids. There is also the Maison Ou'verte - all of these are searchable on Google, but if you have any questions, then PM me.
There is also a kindermusik group in Lausanne somewhere.
Good luck and enjoy your little girl - I now have two, and they are great fun to have around!

I have 2 kids --elder one is 26 months and younger one is turning into 3 months soon. Both of them are borne in hospital in Lausanne in Switzerland. I'd be happy to share any experience of giving birth here...(hopefully still fresh
as for the english -speaking mid-wife asked by another member, if you're willing to pay, you could search it through internet (google "sage femme, ch"), there's a directory of all the mid-wives and the language they speak.
good luck to all mums.

Hi Rebecca
Try the following for some social activities with your little one... www.citymom.ch has details of a Mums and Mums To Be Coffee Morning (as well as other events) in central Lausanne (I don't go as it clashes with naptime but have a few friends who do)
Also www.valleedelajeunesse.ch is a fantastic place, lots of anglophones and a little corner for babies
Kidspace is another popular one but possibly more for toddlers, I think they run the Kindermusik classes there though www.kidspace.ch
Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Hello, I am only one month pregnant. This is my first and since I am 32, I want to make sure that I do everything correctly. Unfortunately, I am pretty clueless and dont even know if I can continue yoga. I was hoping to speak with anyone who has experience with having a baby in Lausanne. Has anyone delivered at CHUV or a private clinic like Clinique de la Source? Has anyone taken any prenatal yoga classes? I appreciate any advice you may have! Merci, Cara

Congratulations!
I think the first thing to do is relax. You do have to be more careful in the first three months, but looking after yourself is the best thing you can do and you are in great hands in Switzerland, so there is really nothing to worry about.
Regarding yoga is OK to continue with as long as it is not too strenous. In fact it is great for strengthening the core muscles you need to carry a baby and give birth (and recover afterwards). I had both my children in my 30s, I did yoga with my second and things went a lot better for me healthwise.
Next step, if you haven't done so, is to find a good gynocologist. Mine is great, but in Vevey, perhaps someone else can recommend one too you.
It's also worth investing in a good 'what to expect during your pregancy' type book, there are loads out there. I got a 'week-by-week' one which was a great help, it gave me lots of interesting insights and confidence.
Hope this helps. If you have any other Qs, feel free to PM me.

Really one of the best things you can do is go to the moms and moms to be group in starbucks St. Laurent (directly opposite Coop City in Lausanne). Its on every second Tuesday from 12pm, the next one is Tuesday 01st June and there you will meet lots of english speaking moms and moms to be who will give you every bit of advice and information you need. It was a life saver for me during my pregnancy here. I can advise you a gynocologist Dr. Stefan Welti 0216174032- he is BRILLIANT! and based in Lausanne but give him a call asap to get on his list.
For an English speaking midwife you need Ruth Brauen 0794693187 who is also based in Lausanne and again is a minefield of information and more helpful than you can ever imagine.
I hear the CHUV is great but everyone has a different experience but depending on what insurance you have depends on whether or not you can go private so thats something you need to think about.
Ill most likely be at starbucks next week if you want to meet up let me know or send me a private message with your email and we can meet another day.
Oh and regards Yoga, you need to just inform your instructor that your pregnant and s/he should be able to advise you. As long as you dont have any complications you should be ok but listen to your body. I had to stop yoga cos all the bending down used to make me dizzy when I was pregnant and Id fall over so that was the end of that but I can recommend a really good pilates class especially for pregnant women where you will be really well looked after.

Hi Cara,
I just had my first baby in January and highly recommend the practice of yoga during the pregnancy. I had a completely natural birth and my breathing techniques and yoga practice helped make this possible. There are classes as well DVDs: I recommend Shiva Rea's Prenatal Yoga DVD.
Good luck and enjoy!

Hi Cara
I am currently 6 months pregnant and arrived in Switzerland last week! We are living in St-Prex so not far from Lausanne and I am currently looking for a doctor and considering having the baby at Morges Hospital. It would be good to catchup and find out how things are going with your search for a doctor and decision on hospital/birthing centre too! Plus I'm looking to meet other new mums and mums to be in the area!

Hi Ladies,
I moved to Switzerland in March this year. I just found out I'm pregnant (13 weeks) and would love to meet some mum's out there. We are currently living in Clarens which is near Vevey but don't mind traveling around.
Would be really great to start meeting some new people, as I dont speak French yet but my partner is French so he's fine !
Also if any of you know about some mother groups that I could go to and even pre-antental classes near me, preferably in English that would be of a great help!
Thanks in advance,
Lara

Hi Lara
Congratulations! I'm in a similar position to you! I don't speak much French, although determined to learn, it would be good to find other English speaking mums in the area as I only have 11 weeks to go!
I live a bit further round the Lake than you - in St-Prex, but we visited Vevey a couple of weekends ago and it looks lovely. Where abouts are you planning on having the baby? I visited Morges Hospital last week and we are planning on going there - it's only 20 minutes down the road and I've found a lovely English speaking doctor there too. I had my first appointment with him and had a scan, didn't expect it, but it was lovely to have a thorough check up and see Baby G is all ok! They have given me the details of an English speaking mid-wife also in Morges who I'll be contacting - but it's probably a bit too far from you to be useful.
If you'd like to talk more about pregnancy, doctors, classes etc then send me a private message and we can chat more!

Hi Mrs G, I'm long past the pregnancy and baby stage, but just wanted to say that someone I know had a baby in Morges recently and said it was amazingly nice there, with fabulous staff. Good luck for the rest of the pregnancy and the delivery.
