Vevey Hopital Riviera-SAMARITAIN...maternity ward information/reviews?

Hi,

I am new on here but have been living in Switzerland for over a year now. I really need some advice on HOPITAL RIVIERA-SAMARITAIN in Vevey.

I am 26 weeks pregnant and am looking to change doctors at the moment as am very unhappy with my current one. I live in Gstaad but do not want to give birth there as I would have to remain with my current doctor. We have been recommended the Hopital Riviera - Samaitain and have even booked an appointment with one of their gynocologists in two weeks time, but I am really struggling to find much information about the hospital and the private maternity ward, which they appaerntly have.

I am wondering if anyone has given birth there or knows of people who have. I would love to hear some views on the hospital and the maternity ward especially. I have private insurance so should be eligeble for one of their 9 private rooms, does anyone know anything about the rooms and services available at the hospital?

Sorry to go on for so long....I have been going nuts trying to find information about this hospital but have had very little luck so far.

I really hope some of you may be able to help.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Katie,

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I had my twins at the Samaritain a few months ago and had a good experience there. I had a room to myself due to having twins and the facilities were fine. They are my first babies so I canīt compare the maternity ward to any others but I was very happy with my treatment - my doctor (Dr Hermanjard) and the midwives were great. It is possibly not your main concern (!!!) but I definitely think it would be very hard to beat the fabulous views of Lake Leman from the hospital balcony which helped me through my contractions and I really liked the food - maybe I was just delirious and exhausted (I was induced and my labour seemed to go on forever) but it tasted fab!

Feel free to pm me if you have questions about specific services and I will do my best to help.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I am 14 weeks pregnant with my second baby and am planning on giving birth at the Samaritain. I use a local English-speaking Gyn/Obs in Montreux and he is one of the lead Obs at the Samaritain.
I had my first in the Uk and am really looking forward to experiencing Swiss maternity hospitals compared to the NHS. I have met many other mothers here who have all given glowing reports about their child birth experiences at the Samaritain eg great food, hotel-standard rooms, friendly staff and you can stay-in for 6 days. Unlike the nhs where you are kicked out after 24hours but then dread having to stay any longer!
All the best and pm me if you want the details of my Gyn/Obs.

Hello,

Congrats on your pregnancy.

another Uk'er who had her baby at the Samaritan - he was born in July last year. i was in and out of the hospital for many months as i had a tough pregnancy - so I am pretty familiar with all the staff and the OBs as well.

overall the care I recieved was excellent - they took thier time to explain things to me and really looked after me.
the only downside for me was the food - i am veggie, so its hard enough to find decent food in swiss, but at the hospital it was pretty bad, i would normally be presented with the a plate of vegetables..

the other minor point - the only english tv channel i had was BBC prime - thank god for the laptop and selection of dvd etc that I had - to help keep me sane in the small hours..

I was also in a private room - and found visiting very flexible (the view from the balcony was good as well)

Unfortunatly for me - i was then transfered to the CHUV in Lausanne - my baby arrived at 33 weeks and needed special care, the care he recieved at the CHUV was amazing - however for me it was horrible.

So basically - found the samaritan great - the CHUV awful
pm me if you need any contact names etc

Hello,

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I would like to say that we had a baby last year in Aug is this hospital and everything was perfect. We had the basic insurance and still all the facilities were good. Maximum 2 mothers with their new born in one room.

All the staff there was very helpful and good. Most of the nurses and doctors speak English there so we had no issue at all.

I wish you all the best.

Re: Vevey Hopital Riviera-SAMARITAIN...maternity ward information/reviews?

My wife gave birth to our first child at the Samaritan two weeks ago. Being our first child, we had no idea what to expect.

The staff at the hospital were wonderful. The labour and the delivery never felt "clinical" as the staff answered any questions we had and helped us in any way they could. My wife and I felt like we were surrounded by people we could trust.

The food was really good and the view from the rooms is tough to beat!

Good luck!
