Schools [Basel]

I've just come across this forum as it's quite likely that we will move to Basel from the UK later this year. I would like to ask for advice on schooling in Switzerland for my two children.

First, for my daughter, who is 16, and is doing her GCSEs this summer. She very much wants to go to medical school, is likely to get the grades to do so, and has reasonable French and very good German (in fact, she wants to study German to A-level, along with maths and sciences). Is there a good, highly academic school in or near Basel that can give her two years of very high quality schooling so that she can get to medical school either in the UK, or possibly elsewhere (Europe or USA)? I am worried that it would be too much for her to attend a local school at such a key time in her studies, but am not convinced by the international school. We would also look seriously at boarding school options in Switzerland if that was necessary.

Second, for my son, who is 8, and into the normal things that an 8 year old is into. I'd like him to become tri-lingual, and am prepared to take the risk of putting him into a local school so he gets the language deep dive.

Thanks in advance for your advice and guidance.

Re: Schools

Hi,

I have a friend who's daughter has received all her secondary education at the International School in Basel. This year she has successfully received offers from medical schools in the UK, so it is possible. They study for the international baccalaureate qualification, rather than A levels. Do ask lots of questions first.
