No additional taxes for non-citizens. Only able-bodied Swiss citizens are charged extra taxes if they do not perform Swiss army service.

There is no real incentive to take Swiss citizenship. EU citizens usually prefer not to naturalize. They have all the privileges and none of the duties.

There might be if you don't have EU citizenship. You always hear those stories about 20-year olds who don't get work permits and have to leave the country even though they have spent their entire lives here. I think ("think" as in "don't know for sure") that being born and raised here doesn't automatically guarantee a B or C permit after finishing school.

True but having a Swiss passport is much better than a US or UK one when travelling in some parts of the world.

But you also have to weigh up the cost of never having the right to a voice - i.e. casting your vote within the country you live.

Sure there is - in about 20 years when your child has grown up he/she will be able to apply.....
You do not have to wait that long!

Once children have lived here a certain amount of time, parents can apply for them

Wrong. Non-Swiss nationals are not subject to military obligations and hence by extension not subject to military tax in lieu.

Where do you hear these stories? By age 20 anyone born here will have a C'permit regardless of nationality, and no one will kick them out.

I don't understand the fuss with regards to naturalization because once you have a C-permit, you're a permanent resident, your kids too. I wouldn't give up my Irish and UK passport for a Swiss one but if we stay here a very long time and our kids wish to, that's their choice.. so the question here is: can grown-up children of foreign parents, having lived their whole life here, apply for citizenship at a certain age and easily acquire it? Or is this a problematic process?

I hear it is relatively painless albeit time consuming. Certain communes may be allergic to applicants from the "Balkans".
