English speaking doctor in Zug

Hi all,

Does anyone know of an English speaking doctor in the Zug/Baar area? I could struggle by in broken Hochdeutsch if I had to, but I'd prefer English given the option.

My insurance is for any doctor so would welcome any recommendations.

I did a search but "Zug" is only three letters long so I can't search for it....

I feel sorry for you, that the posts so far are amusing but of no real help! Can take things all a bit too seriously sometimes though! Anyway suggest you email jenny, who deals with insurance ( health) on the forum. She;s been really helpful to me and may be able to give you a name or two. insurancejenny@gmail.com

And really hope you get well soon.

I have a habit of doing that, aside from the amusing part.

Worst comes to worst I'll just bite the bullet and head into the docs on my street tomorrow - but when you're not feeling good the last thing you want to do is worry about language..!

Re: English speaking doctor in Zug

I received from my HR department a little brochure "Zug: doctors and dentists".
It is a directory of all kind of doctors in Kanton Zug and one column gives you the languages that are spoken by the doctor/in the practice.
I would give you some names; however I experienced that several do not take new patients or have waiting lists; so when I needed one I just called one after the other until I found one that would see me that day.
It is publicized by the Economic Promotion Office Canton Zug (Aabachstrasse 5, Zug - tel.041/728 55 04). Good luck!

I did this - just turned up at the docs two buildings down from me as I had a child-related semi-emergency. The doctor could speak what I judged as fluent English, despite not listing this on the www.doctors.ch site.

You should be lucky; since then I've found myself and heard from others that it's difficult to find a doctor who doesn't speak English, even though modesty of not being totally bilingual permits them from promoting it.

Usually, though, I've found that receptionists have no English, but if you can manage to make appointments in German then you'll be fine.

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon.

I use a medical practice in Neustadt Passage above Coop. You don't have to be with Xundeit insurance to use it.

A few doctors there speak English - just ask. Dr Kaufmann speaks good English. http://www.xundheit.ch/krankenkasse/hmo/praxis_hmo_zug.asp

Re: English speaking doctor in Zug

I've gone to Dr. Marc Hoppler a few times and he's pleasant and speaks English well, although the receptionist doesn't.

In case someone IS looking for a gyno, I recommend Dr. Frank Illigen.

I was just doing a search for an English speaking general practioner in Zug on Google (my German is good, but I don't know all the fancy medical words) and came across this thread. Just thought I'd add a link to this document for future searchers:
