| | | Marmite for a child
I have managed to make my little one eat breakfast alright (she is not a picky eater but usually eats miniscule amounts) but with a help of Marmite. She loves it and eats three times as much bread, butter and cheese or peanut butter if I put Marmite on it too. Now, I have a feeling it is ok but wanted to check with the Marmite junkies here? Thanks!

Hi
It is high in salt but a small spread in an otherwise processed food free diet is no problem at all. One of mine loves marmite sandwiches but the other not --- not tried peanut butter and marmite though??? even for me it sounds yucky

cazx | | | | | Peanut butter and marmite sounds like something only a kid can love. My li'l bro loved salami with strawberry youghurt at the age of about four years.

Give them Vegemite instead. | | The following 5 users would like to thank drsmithy for this useful post: | |

Marmite is a good source of B vitamins. Of course it is so delicious that any health benifit is irrelevant.

Your child should be commended on her incredibly good taste!
Only good things can be said about marmite!

Peanut butter, marmite and cheese is a lovely combo on a toast!
I am glad it is ok. The only thing that makes me a bit worried is our recent raclette fest together with stinky marmite, her olfactory sense is probably wrecked for ever..She does not mind raclette, we were surprised.

All I can tell you is that during the biting season I spread marmite over myself from head to foot and I haven't had a mosquito bite in years.

In Sri Lanka, when I was there in the early 80's, Marmite was used as a treatment for kids with B12 deficiency. It worked like a charm apparently.
My little lad likes to cover his face with it from eyebrows to chin.
Don't touch Vegemite, if you want to get an idea of the taste experience that is contained in a Vegemite pot, grind up a vegetable stock cube with some strong alcohol and spread it on your bread (probably how the Ozzies came up with the stuff when I think about it....).
Cheers
Jim

Of course it is good for children! Contains vitamin B12 etc, which is apparently quite hard to find in other foods.
If you ever have to give your cat a tablet, coating it in Marmite works a treat!

cazx | | | | | In about 18 years time after a night in the pub, your daughter will find this a really awesome combination - especially together with a fried egg.

I have the somewhat odd honour of having been treated for mild burns caused by marmite. Apparently, as a very small child, I snaffled a jar and had it slathered thickly round my chops for a few hours before anyone found me...
Other than that, it is awesome. Our kids love the stuff.
Also, regarding the aforementioned iSnack, they've binned that name less than a week after it came out. Many feel it was a publicity stunt...
