Theraputic Horse Riding?

Hello everyone,
I am searching for a Theraputic Horse Riding/ Hippotheraputic center to volunteer at.

I love horses, I love volunteering,
I could use the hours for my Community & Service at school,
My topic for my Personal Project (at ISB)
is Investigating how horseback riding can be theraputic for disabled children and adults alike
& I think it would be a really fufilling experience for me.

I have tried to find some info via Google, but there is nothing in CH.
So I thought it might be helpful if I brought my inquiries here.
If you could point me in the right direction in terms of websites or contact info that would be super.

Thanks!

xox

Re: Theraputic Horse Riding?

I'm not sure how quick or easy this will be BUT perhaps it will be worth the go:

This Indian Riding School which (apparently) happens to be in Spain is owned (?) / operated (?) by a couple who studied here in Basel and teach riding as well as have experience in theraputic riding.

Perhaps emailing them may lead to some information for you?

Good luck!!

Re: Theraputic Horse Riding?

You want to search for Reittherapie...

One place to look, where you might find more information as to what is required:

http://www.ipth.ch/reittherapie.html

Google brings up several places offering riding-as-therapy in Switzerland.

Some years ago I looked for similar volunteer opportunities, as I used to volunteer with RDA in Hong Kong, working with physically and developmentally disabled children.

Unfortunately, I found that the organizations/riding schools I contacted here required specific qualifications, which I lack - I'm just a person who likes horses and wanted to help kids. But if you were doing this as part of a school experience there might be more flexibility involved - can't hurt to ask.

Good luck with your search - it's a very fulfilling experience.

ETA:

Found this that might be of interest, although I don't know if it is current. But even if not, this might be a place to look for other opportunities:

"Für das Kinderspital Zürich suchen wir ab sofort in das Freiwilligenteam des Rehabilitationszentrums in Affoltern am Albis eine weitere Freiwillige Begleitperson / Pferdeführerin für die Hippotherapie..."

Re: Theraputic Horse Riding?

If you have a car, take a drive over the border into France since there was a stable/farm right in Hesingue (don't remember the exact village).

The owners are very nice (she is a nurse) and they were just starting out and doing alot of work on the place. However, I haven't spoken to them in about 2 years. The facility was for children with disabilities.

The outside area was Spanish styled (there is a courtyard and it is very beautiful) - you can see it from the main road.

Sorry, I do not remember the name but it was one place that I looked at in order to board my horse. They gave me the idea to buy a Friesian which I eventually did.

Good luck.
