Hi everyone,

Is there any cancer survivors in zurich? I would like to meet people who have overcome this terrible disease.

Thanks,

Re: Cancer survivors in Zurich

Try contacting the "Krebs Liga" (Cancer League), they have listings of all kinds of self-help groups. However, they probably only offer things in German, French and Italian.

Tel. Zurich: 044 388 55 00
Tel. Winterthur: 052 212 39 39

Are you one of them bAARON? You don't have to answer of course, if this is too personal a question.

It's not me but it is a person in my home. I am shocked to hear this. Everyone thought it was normal cold, but now doctors are telling there was a cyst in her body for the past two years.

Re: Cancer survivors in Zurich

So sorry to hear this, barron. Hope things will turn out ok..There is also a lot of support online.

Everybody should have their blood checked, ever now and then. Screeing tests are so important and they can say a lot on one's health.

I hope things will turn into more positive direction for your family, soon. When she recovers, insist that she is super closely monitored for any progress - there have been quite a few people around us here lately having troubles with not being monitored after being cured and cancer came back and the tests were always done when it was too late (sorry to bring this sad topic, I am sure you have enough on your plate as it is).

Re: Cancer survivors in Zurich

i'm sorry to hear that also- but there is so much hope and positivity out there and i do wish that some of that comes to your family soon.

while i don't know anyone who is a survivor here in c.h, one of my best friends was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer about 4 years ago. she had a series of surgeries and chemo and i spent many, many afternoons by her side when she was recovering and going thru the chemo. it was hard and even more because she was so young (28!!!). it is amazing to think about all that now- she is doing excellent, she volunteers for a group in ny that offers free services (pyschological, acupuncture, massage, nutrition, etc) to people affected by cancer and she is the first to say that it changed her life and how she lives it. i truly believe she is healthier and happier now- but it was a really difficult road, that's for sure. BUT, she was supported, loved and cared for by all of the friends and family who loved her dearly- this can be the best medicine for recovery!

all of the best of luck to you and your loved one- if you (or they) need any resources or comfort, please feel free to contact me and i can have her network some resources here for you- times like these are always when people must pull together and you are very right in looking for resources within your community!

So sorry to hear that and also sorry that I can't help you. However, I'm sure there are many people in Zurich that have survived cancer.

Re: Cancer survivors in Zurich

Hi bARRON,

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. My father experienced a similar faith, he was sick for a long time, until no fluid and food went through him anymore. He then had an emergency surgery, and they found a huge tumor inside his stomach. That was removed, it seemed they got all of it, he immediately also started taking strong cancer medication.

We tried everything, also alternative medicine, but 2 years after the surgery (in February this year) he passed away. Only a few months earlier he was still travelling all over Europe with my mom, looked physically very strong, but the last few weeks just then drained him totally.

The end was so sudden, that he ended up being at the hospital only for 5 days. For that I am grateful.

I don't want to scare you with this story, but as you probably know, you should prepare for the worst. For a long time we actually believed that my father was beating the cancer, it looked promising, but then the spreading of the cancer just "exploded".

I can only wish you lots of strength and good luck, I hope this person in your family will be one of the few who survive it.

But just in case, make sure there are no "open issues", everything will be said and done in time what needs to be said and done. My father lived long enough to see all of his grandchildren, and I managed to have my father-son talk with him just before he lost his ability to communicate properly. In the middle of this sorrow, it really helps and gives a warm feeling. I can focus on remembering him, honouring his memory, and thinking about him peacefully, with warmth.

Lots and lots of luck to your family.

Re: Cancer survivors in Zurich

I know someone who survived an aggressive breast cancer. After the diagnosis she had an amputation and chemotherapy. She survived and gets yearly check ups. She got married and moved to Switzerland/ZH and still lives here.

I sincerely hope everything turns out ok for your friend.

Re: Cancer survivors in Zurich

bARRON,

I don't know about any groups in Zurich, but there is an English Speaking Cancer Association in Geneva that offers support, information, and help to cancer patients and their families. LINK They may be able to give you some contact information for your area.

Remember that it's also very important for you to get some support too.

Best wishes.
