doctor??? maybe??? sorry no other suggestions but bad breath is often a sign of an illness (cold/sore throat etc..)

Re: need help

Could be a sign of dehydration, maybe she isn't drinking enough to compensate for the dry Winter central-heating.. make sure she does not have heat on in her room while sleeping at night.

Go see your Doctor, he/she will tell you what is causing it for sure.

Re: need help

Dentist might be another port of call. Teeth/gum problems can cause yucky breath, too.

EDIT: Kevlegs - you type faster than me...

Re: need help

does it just smell realyy bad or does it really smell like poop ?? If it really does smell like faeces, could be a sign of a blocked bowel causing the contents to back up the system. This is a very distinctive smell, and if it realllhy smells like that then you need a doctor's appt. If its just really bad smelling, then others have given good suggestions. Does she have any other symptoms? Abdominal pain or anything? how is her appetite.? eating and drinking ok? Bowel movements normal and regular? if answers to these are normal, then probably halotosis (bad breath).

Or Methanethiol (also known as methyl mercaptan).

Re: Remedies for a toddler with bad breath

Anyway, getting back to the original question.............

Did you consider that it could be tonsil stones??

"What is a tonsillolith? Tonsilloliths, also known as tonsil stones, are irregularly shaped, whitish/yellow, foul-smelling globs of mucus and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil crypts which are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. The scientific name for these white globs is tonsilloliths."

If you search youtube for "tonsil stones" you can view videos on how to remove them!

Good luck

My daughter had similar problems when she was 6-one of the things that worked really well was getting her to clean her tongue- she also used non-alcoholic mouth wash. Since your daughter is much younger, you'll just have to do with cleaning her tongue. Also, I know probiotic formulas are also very helpful, but if you don't feel comfortable with that, you might just try giving her youghurt.
Good luck!

Re: Remedies for a toddler with bad breath

everytime my 3 year old had one of these it was a throat/ear infection or a probable cause of tosilitis. Sometime when his tummy was bloated or when he had indigestion he had fould breath too. I would go to the doctor as this is a indication of some illness (fever, cold, flu etc.) to come...just nature's way of forewarning I guess.
